You can’t see the wind. You can’t grab it or control it. But you know when it’s there.
Why?
Because you hear it.
Jesus used that exact picture when He talked about being born again. He said, “The wind bloweth where it listeth… and thou hearest the sound thereof… so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”
That’s not poetry. That’s a clue.
He didn’t say you’ll guess the Spirit is there. He didn’t say you’ll just feel something quiet inside. He said you’ll hear the sound.
Think about that.
The new birth is like wind. Invisible in nature, but undeniable in evidence. You may not see where it comes from or where it goes, but when it moves, it makes itself known.
So what is the sound?
We don’t have to guess. The Bible shows us.
On the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was first poured out, there came a sound from heaven like a rushing mighty wind. Then something else happened. They were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
There it is.
The wind. And the sound.
Jesus described it in John 3. Acts 2 shows it happening in real life. Not once. Not as a special case. But as the pattern.
Acts 10. The Gentiles received the Holy Ghost, and they heard them speak with tongues.
Acts 19. Disciples received the Holy Ghost, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
Different people. Different places. Same sound.
That matters.
Because it means the new birth isn’t silent.
A lot of people are told that being born again is just a private moment. A quiet decision. Something only you and God know. But Jesus said otherwise. He said there would be a sound.
Not noise for attention. Not performance. But a God-given utterance that comes from the Spirit Himself.
That’s the difference.
It’s not you speaking from your mind. It’s the Spirit speaking through you. Just like the wind moves the trees, the Spirit moves your voice.
And when that happens, something shifts inside you.
You’re not wondering anymore if God is in your life. You’re not hoping you said the right prayer. You’re not trying to convince yourself something changed.
You know.
Because the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead just made Himself known in you.
That’s why this matters so much.
God didn’t design salvation to be uncertain. He gave a witness. A real one. Something you can experience, not just agree with.
The wind still blows.
The sound still comes.
And the new birth still happens the same way.
So if you’ve been searching, asking, trying to figure out if you’re truly saved, don’t settle for silence when Jesus promised a sound.
Because when you’re born of the Spirit, it’s not hidden.
It’s heard.
And once you hear it, everything changes.
