The Spirit of Truth Still Speaks
Brethren, Jesus Himself declared it: “When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth… and He will shew you things to come” (John 16:13). That is not a vague promise – it’s a declaration of ongoing revelation. The same Spirit who spoke through prophets and apostles now lives in the believer, whispering warnings, stirring hearts, and revealing God’s unfolding plan.
He doesn’t speak from Himself; He speaks from the mind of God. Friends, if the Spirit of God lives in us, how can we walk blindly through this world? How can we ignore His voice when He’s showing us what’s ahead?
Revelation Comes Through the Spirit
John was “in the Spirit on the Lord’s day” (Revelation 1:10). And what happened? Heaven opened. The veil lifted. The Spirit showed him the return of Christ, the fall of kingdoms, and the glory that awaits the faithful. O my soul, how we need that same Spirit in our generation!
The Church does not survive by programs but by revelation. When we are “in the Spirit,” we see as John saw – we perceive what’s coming and prepare for it.
The Spirit Warns and Prepares
In Acts 11:28, Agabus “signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world.” That revelation led the believers to prepare and provide. The Holy Ghost does not show things to come merely to impress us – He does it to ready us.
Paul testified, “The Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me” (Acts 20:23). And later, Agabus again prophesied Paul’s arrest (Acts 21:11). The Spirit doesn’t hide trouble from us – He walks us through it with eyes wide open.
Friends, are we listening? When the Spirit warns, do we prepare? Or do we shrug it off until crisis hits?
The God Who Reveals His Secrets
The prophet Amos declared, “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7). God has never left His people in the dark. From Daniel’s day to ours, He makes known what shall be in the latter days (Daniel 2:28).
When the Spirit comes, dreams awaken, visions unfold, and hearts perceive (Joel 2:28). The Spirit does not bring confusion – He brings divine perspective. The same breath that hovered over chaos in Genesis still brings light to darkness today.
The Spirit Speaks of the Latter Times
Paul warned, “The Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith” (1 Timothy 4:1). The Spirit does not mumble – He speaks expressly. His voice pierces through deception and alerts the saints to coming danger.
Peter confirms it: “Prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:21). Every prophecy that ever stood true was born of that same Spirit.
The Spirit Reveals and Confirms
Remember Joseph in Egypt? The Spirit revealed Pharaoh’s dream to him, foretelling seven years of plenty followed by seven of famine (Genesis 41:25–32). That revelation saved nations.
Isaiah wrote, “Declaring the end from the beginning” (Isaiah 46:9–10). Who but God can do that? Ezekiel testified, “The Spirit lifted me up, and brought me in vision… and showed me the things to come” (Ezekiel 11:24–25).
The Holy Ghost has always been the revealer of truth, the One who lifts us beyond what our eyes can see.
The Spirit Teaches, Reminds, and Reveals
Jesus said, “The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost… shall teach you all things” (John 14:26). He not only teaches but reveals the timing, the fulfillment, and the purpose of all Jesus said.
At Pentecost, Peter cried, “This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel… your sons and daughters shall prophesy” (Acts 2:17–18). The Church age began with revelation and will end the same way.
The Spirit Searches the Deep Things of God
Paul told the Corinthians, “God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2:9–10). We are not left with surface understanding. The Spirit digs deep, uncovering what no human mind could know.
In Revelation 22:6, the Lord declares that He sent His angel “to shew unto His servants the things which must shortly be done.” The story began with revelation and ends with revelation.
The Spirit Gives Timely Words and Divine Direction
Jesus told His disciples, “When they deliver you up, take no thought… for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father” (Matthew 10:19–20). Even in moments of persecution, the Spirit speaks through us, preparing us for what lies ahead.
Simeon, guided by the Holy Ghost, entered the temple and saw the Christ child, just as it had been revealed to him (Luke 2:25–27). The Spirit not only reveals global events but personal promises.
The Invitation to Come Higher
Finally, John heard a voice from heaven saying, “Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter” (Revelation 4:1–2). The Spirit caught him up. Revelation always calls us higher. The Spirit still says to the Church, Come up! Lift your eyes, sharpen your hearing, and see what the Lord is doing.
Closing Appeal
Friends, this is not the hour for dull hearing or blind eyes. The Holy Ghost is still showing things to come. He warns of deception, prepares for hardship, and reveals the glory that follows.
Will we listen? Will we draw near enough to hear Him whisper? The Spirit of truth stands ready to unveil God’s plan – not for our curiosity, but for our courage, our purity, and our readiness.
Let every heart cry, “Speak, Lord, for Thy servant heareth.”
For the Spirit of God still shows things to come – and blessed are those who see by His light.
