The God Who Delivers Again – From Pharaoh’s Egypt to Babylon’s World
Brethren, the story of Exodus is not just ancient history. It is prophecy rehearsed. The same God who shattered Egypt’s idols will soon bring down the pride of this present world. Just as the plagues once struck Pharaoh’s kingdom, so shall the judgments in Revelation strike the rebellious systems of men. The Lord will again prove that He alone is God, that no false power, no modern Pharaoh, no global empire can stand against His will.
The Exodus was not merely an escape from Egypt – it was a revelation of God’s character. Each plague unmasked a false god, humbling the nation that defied Him. Yet those same patterns echo through Revelation, reminding us that judgment always precedes deliverance, and separation always comes before salvation.
The first Exodus birthed a nation under the blood of a lamb; the final Exodus will reveal the eternal Bride washed in the blood of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8).
Friends, these are not tales of wrath for others – they are warnings to us. We live in the days when hearts harden, when idols are many, and when truth is mocked. But God is faithful. He marks His own with the seal of His Spirit, just as Israel was marked by the blood on their doors.
He will bring His people out again – out of Babylon, out of sin, out of deception – into the freedom of His everlasting kingdom. So lift your eyes! As the plagues once prepared Israel for the Red Sea, so the judgments of Revelation prepare the Church for the return of the King. Praise the Lord, for the Lamb that delivered then will deliver again.
1. WATER TURNED TO BLOOD – False Life Exposed
When Moses struck the Nile, Egypt’s lifeline became death. Their god of the river was powerless (Exodus 7:15–21). Likewise, in Revelation 8:8–9 and 16:3–4, the seas and rivers turn to blood – every false source of life runs dry. Babylon’s systems, its commerce, its pleasures, its self-made “streams,” will all fail.
Psalm 78:44 reminds us, “He turned their rivers into blood.” Isaiah 15:9 says, “Blood is mingled with the waters.” When the world worships what God created, He reveals its corruption.
Meaning: Only the blood of the Lamb gives true life. The rest turns to death.
2. FROGS – Unclean Spirits of Deception
In Egypt, frogs filled every corner (Exodus 8:1–15). In Revelation 16:13–14, unclean spirits “like frogs” leap from the dragon, beast, and false prophet. Frogs were considered abominable (Leviticus 11:10–12). They croaked endlessly, filling the air with noise – just as false voices now fill the spiritual atmosphere with confusion.
Paul warned that lying wonders would deceive those who “received not the love of the truth” (2 Thessalonians 2:9–10).
Meaning: The world’s deception grows loud before deliverance, but God’s people discern truth through His Word and Spirit.
3. LICE FROM DUST – Human Pride Humbled
When the dust became lice (Exodus 8:16–19), Pharaoh’s magicians cried, “This is the finger of God!” Genesis 3:19 says, “Dust thou art.” Man without God becomes corruption. Psalm 105:31 declares, “He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies.”
Meaning: This plague reminds us that all flesh is frail. God brings man low so He alone may be exalted.
4. SWARMS – Distinction Between the Righteous and the Wicked
Exodus 8:20–32 shows swarms filling Egypt, but not touching Goshen. In Revelation 9:2–5, locust-like creatures rise from the pit to torment those without God’s seal. Psalm 78:45 says, “He sent divers sorts of flies.”
Meaning: Even in judgment, God makes a difference. Those sealed by His Spirit (Revelation 7:3) dwell safely while the world trembles.
5. PESTILENCE ON LIVESTOCK – False Strength Destroyed
Egypt’s cattle fell dead (Exodus 9:1–7). Revelation 6:8 speaks of death by sword, famine, and pestilence. The strength of man – his armies, industries, and wealth – will fail. Deuteronomy 28:22 says pestilence is the fruit of rebellion.
Meaning: God dismantles every idol of power. He alone sustains the righteous.
6. BOILS AND SORES – Outward Judgment of Inward Corruption
Exodus 9:8–11 describes painful boils. Revelation 16:2 speaks of “a grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast.” Deuteronomy 28:27 calls it “the botch of Egypt.”
Meaning: Sin always surfaces. Those marked by rebellion bear visible proof of inward decay, while the righteous, like Job, remain faithful under trial.
7. HAIL AND FIRE – God’s Voice Thunders Judgment
Hail mingled with fire struck Egypt (Exodus 9:22–27). Revelation 8:7 mirrors this scene – hail and fire burn the earth. Psalm 78:47 says, “He destroyed their vines with hail.” Isaiah 28:2 calls hail “a destroying storm.”
Meaning: When God speaks, false coverings crumble. His voice still thunders from heaven, calling men to repent before the storm breaks again.
8. LOCUSTS – Judgment That Consumes All Fruit
Exodus 10:12–19 records locusts devouring every green thing. Revelation 9:1–11 shows locusts from the abyss tormenting men. Joel 2:25 promises restoration: “I will restore the years that the locust hath eaten.”
Meaning: Judgment devours rebellion, but grace restores the repentant. God can replant what judgment stripped away.
9. DARKNESS – The Light Withdrawn
Egypt sat in darkness that could be felt (Exodus 10:21–29). Revelation 16:10 shows the beast’s kingdom darkened. Isaiah 60:2 warns, “Darkness shall cover the earth.”
Yet amid that darkness, the children of Israel had light in their dwellings. Christ is still the Light (John 8:12).
Meaning: Those who reject the Light are left in blindness. Those who walk with Him never lose sight of the way.
10. DEATH OF THE FIRSTBORN – Salvation Through the Blood
The firstborn of Egypt died (Exodus 11–12). Only those marked with blood were spared. In Revelation, those washed in the blood of the Lamb (Revelation 7:14) stand victorious while the beast’s armies perish (Revelation 19:19–21).
Paul wrote, “Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us” (1 Corinthians 5:7).
Meaning: Deliverance always costs blood – the Lamb’s blood for the believer, or one’s own life in rebellion. The blood still speaks mercy for those who believe.
SUMMARY – OUR FINAL EXODUS
From Egypt to Revelation, the pattern is clear: God judges idols, separates His people, and redeems by blood and power. The song of Moses becomes the song of the Lamb (Exodus 15:1–2; Revelation 15:3–4).
We, too, are called to come out of Egypt – out of sin, compromise, and worldly trust – to stand on the shore of victory singing, “The Lord hath triumphed gloriously!”
Revelation 12:11 declares our confidence: “They overcame by the blood of the Lamb.” This is the final Exodus – the triumph of the redeemed, the end of Babylon’s reign, and the beginning of eternal praise to the One who brings His people through the sea once more.
Praise be to God, for the Lamb that delivered then still delivers now.
