Peace That Passes All Understanding
Praise the Lord! Friends, let me tell you something that will shake your soul awake – real peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of God. The world offers temporary calm – a glass of wine, a quiet song, a few moments of distraction – but the peace of God?
That’s something else entirely. It’s divine, unexplainable, unbreakable. It holds you when storms roar and comforts you when tears fall. It’s a peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances, but on Christ who lives within you. The question is – are you walking in that peace, or are you still chasing the world’s imitation? Praise be to God who gives peace that the world cannot steal!
1. Peace from God
Brethren, peace begins with God Himself. He is not just a giver of peace; He is peace. You can sit beside a calm ocean and still feel restless inside if your heart isn’t anchored in Him.
Philippians 4:7 declares, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” It guards you like a divine shield around your thoughts. Romans 15:33 reminds us, “Now the God of peace be with you all.” Did you catch that? Peace isn’t a feeling – it’s the very presence of God Himself.
And 2 Thessalonians 3:16 seals it: “Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means.” Always. By all means. In all things. That’s His promise. Jesus said it plainly in John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.” Thank You, Lord, for peace that no one else can give!
2. Peace Through Christ
Praise the Lord – peace was bought with blood! Jesus didn’t hand us peace like a trinket; He secured it through His cross. The war between man and God ended on Calvary.
Ephesians 2:14 proclaims, “For he is our peace, who hath made both one.” He broke down every wall that divided us from God and one another. Colossians 1:20 says, “Having made peace through the blood of his cross.” That’s not cheap peace – it’s sacred, costly, eternal peace.
Isaiah 53:5 reminds us, “The chastisement of our peace was upon him.” Every thorn, every whip, every nail – paid for our calm. Romans 5:1 tells us, “Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Hallelujah! We’re not enemies anymore; we’re family.
3. Peace in Troubled Times
Friends, peace doesn’t mean the storm stops. It means you know Who’s in your boat. The world’s peace depends on calm seas, but God’s peace walks on the waves.
Jesus said in John 16:33, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” You will have trouble, but trouble doesn’t have you. Psalm 29:11 says, “The Lord will bless his people with peace.” Isaiah 26:3 declares, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.” Keep your mind on God, not the news, not the fear. Psalm 4:8 says, “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep.” The Lord gives rest when others panic.
4. Peace with Others
Praise be to God – His peace must flow outward! If peace stays locked inside you, it dies. But when it flows through you, it brings life.
Romans 12:18 says, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” That includes the rude coworker, the gossiping neighbor, and even family gatherings that test your patience. Hebrews 12:14 commands, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” Matthew 5:9 gives the promise, “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
James 3:18 adds, “The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.” Peace isn’t passive – it’s sown, it’s built, it’s worked for. Peacemakers don’t avoid tension; they redeem it.
5. Peace in Decision-Making
Sometimes we wrestle over choices – career moves, relationships, direction. But God’s peace can act as your compass.
Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.” That word “rule” means umpire. Let peace call the shots! Proverbs 3:17 says, “Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.” That’s wisdom’s path. Psalm 85:8 says, “I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people.”
And James 3:17 describes heavenly wisdom as “peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated.” If a decision stirs confusion, that’s not God. His peace never manipulates; it confirms.
6. Peace and Righteousness
Peace and righteousness walk hand in hand. You can’t have one without the other. A guilty conscience can’t rest. But when the heart is right with God, peace flows like a river.
Psalm 85:10 says, “Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.” What a picture – justice and tranquility in perfect union! Isaiah 32:17 declares, “The work of righteousness shall be peace.” Romans 14:17 tells us, “The kingdom of God is… righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”
Hebrews 12:11 reminds us that obedience may hurt for a season, but “it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness.” Righteousness may cost you, but it rewards you with peace.
7. Peace as a Blessing and Promise
Peace isn’t just something God does – it’s something He loves to give. It’s His signature blessing.
Numbers 6:26 proclaims, “The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.” Psalm 119:165 says, “Great peace have they which love thy law.” Love God’s Word, and peace will follow you home. Isaiah 54:10 promises, “My kindness shall not depart from thee… saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.”
Leviticus 26:6 adds, “I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid.” God’s peace is fearless, not fragile. Thank You, Lord, for peace that defies fear.
8. Peace in the Mind and Heart
Praise the Lord – God’s peace guards the gates of your heart. The battle isn’t out there; it’s in your thoughts. That’s where peace must rule.
Philippians 4:6–7 says, “Be careful for nothing… and the peace of God shall keep your hearts and minds.” That’s not a suggestion – it’s a command. Colossians 3:15 echoes, “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.” Psalm 34:14 tells us, “Seek peace, and pursue it.” Peace isn’t automatic – you chase it by trusting God’s Word.
Isaiah 48:18 says, “Then had thy peace been as a river.” Imagine that – peace that flows endlessly, not a puddle that dries up after rain.
9. Peace in the Future Kingdom
Oh, praise God! The story of peace ends in glory. One day, there will be no more war, no more fear, no more sleepless nights. Christ, the Prince of Peace, will reign forever.
Isaiah 9:6–7 declares, “His name shall be called… the Prince of Peace… of his government and peace there shall be no end.” Micah 4:3–4 paints the vision: “They shall beat their swords into plowshares… and none shall make them afraid.”
Revelation 21:4 promises, “God shall wipe away all tears… neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.” And 2 Peter 3:14 exhorts us, “Be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace.” Friends, peace began with God – and it ends with eternity in His presence.
