Matthew 19:2 Explained: Why Did Healing Follow… When They Simply Followed?

You ever feel like you’re trying to force something to happen?

You pray. You focus. You try to “make it work.”

But it feels heavy. Like you’re pushing instead of receiving.

So what if healing doesn’t start with effort… but with something simpler?

Let’s see what the Scripture actually says.

“And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.”
Matthew 19:2 (KJV)

Great multitudes followed him

That’s where it starts.

They followed Him.

Not just believed from a distance. Not just heard about Him.

They moved with Him.

Step by step.

That’s different.

Because following means you’re not in control of the direction.

He is.

Do you see that?

It’s not about getting Him to come your way.

It’s about going His way.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27)

That’s the pattern.

He healed them there

Notice that word.

There.

Healing didn’t happen everywhere.

It happened where they were following Him.

That location matters.

Because sometimes you’re asking God to move… while staying in a place He’s not leading you to stay in.

That’s not about blame.

It’s about alignment.

Do you notice the connection?

Following… then healing… in that place.

What’s really happening here?

This verse is simple on the surface.

But it reveals something deeper.

Healing wasn’t separated from relationship.

It wasn’t random.

It flowed in the context of following.

Staying close.

Walking with Him.

That changes how you see it.

Because now it’s not just about a moment.

It’s about direction.

This shows up all through Scripture

You keep seeing this pattern.

People move toward Him… and things change.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you” (James 4:8)

There’s movement.

There’s closeness.

And something happens in that space.

Even when Peter walked on water, it started with stepping toward Jesus.

“And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.” (Matthew 14:29)

Movement again.

Let’s be honest for a moment

Because this is where it gets real.

You want the result.

Healing. breakthrough. change.

But following… that’s ongoing.

That’s daily.

And sometimes it feels slower than you want.

So you try to skip ahead.

You look for a quick answer instead of a steady walk.

Is that what’s been happening?

Have you been trying to receive something… without staying in step with Him?

What this is calling you into

This verse brings it back to something simple.

Follow Him.

Not perfectly.

But intentionally.

Stay close.

Stay responsive.

Keep moving in the direction He’s leading.

Because healing showed up “there.”

In the place of following.

Not outside of it.

“If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed” (John 8:31)

That word “continue” matters.

So when you think about your situation…

What would it actually look like for you to follow Him in this… instead of trying to control the outcome?

Call to Action: The Question That Demands an Answer

In Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do?

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
