The Spirit Cries “Abba, Father” in Us

The Spirit of Adoption Frees Us from Fear

Sent as the Spirit of God’s Son into Our Hearts, Crying Abba, Father
(Galatians 4:6, KJV)

Brethren, this is not religion we speak of – it is relationship. Not ceremony, but sonship. “Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” What a wonder – that the Almighty God would take the Spirit of His own Son and place Him within mortal hearts. This is not theory; it is life. It is the whisper of heaven in a believer’s soul that says, You belong to Me.

1. The Spirit Cries “Abba, Father” in Us (Galatians 4:6)

The Spirit does not mumble – He cries. Deep within, He awakens a voice that calls God “Father.” Have you ever felt that sacred nearness that makes your heart leap, not with fear, but with belonging? “The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost” (Romans 5:5).

When the Father and the Son make their home within us (John 14:23), religion becomes relationship, and duty becomes delight. God Himself has sealed this truth – He “hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts” (2 Corinthians 1:22). Friends, that cry of “Abba” is heaven’s mark upon the soul.

2. The Spirit of Adoption Frees Us from Fear (Romans 8:15)

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear.” Oh no – something has changed! The trembling slave has become a confident child. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead now lives in us, teaching us to run toward God, not hide from Him.

Jesus “is not ashamed to call us brethren” (Hebrews 2:11). The Spirit whispers power, love, and a sound mind – not fear (2 Timothy 1:7). When God pours out “the Spirit of grace and of supplications” (Zechariah 12:10), He’s not just softening hearts; He’s drawing His children home.

3. Born of God by the Spirit (John 1:12–13)

“To as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God.” This isn’t a metaphor – it’s a miracle. We are not adopted from a distance; we are reborn from within. “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5–8).

Salvation is not self-improvement; it’s new creation. “By the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” (Titus 3:5–6), we are made alive. The seed that grows in us is incorruptible – “by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever” (1 Peter 1:23). O my soul, this is the family of God written in the DNA of grace.

4. The Spirit Reveals the Father’s Love (1 John 3:1)

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us.” Stop and behold! The Spirit does not simply inform us of love – He reveals it, He lets us feel it. “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). The Spirit makes that love personal and present.

He strengthens us “to comprehend… the breadth, and length, and depth, and height” of Christ’s love (Ephesians 3:16–19). And Jesus Himself assures us, “The Father Himself loveth you” (John 16:27). Brethren, can your heart grasp that? The Creator loves you as His own child!

5. Adoption Was Always God’s Plan (Ephesians 1:5)

“Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ.” Before you ever called on God, He had already written your name in His heart. And when you believed, He sealed that truth: “After that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise” (Ephesians 1:13–14).

The Spirit is your down payment of glory – your proof of belonging. “He that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 5:5). And though we still wait for full redemption, the Spirit assures us that day will come (Romans 8:23). What a Father, what a future!

6. The Spirit Bears Witness (Romans 8:16)

When doubt knocks, the Spirit answers. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” It’s an inward certainty, a divine echo within the heart. “Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you?” (2 Corinthians 13:5).

Faith hears that inner witness and rests secure: “Ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26). And as John writes, “He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself” (1 John 5:10). Friends, the assurance of salvation isn’t pride – it’s the Spirit speaking truth.

7. The Spirit Speaks Through Us (Matthew 10:20)

“For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.” The same Spirit that cries “Abba” now empowers your testimony. “The Holy Ghost shall teach you what ye ought to say” (Luke 12:12).

Peter stood before rulers, filled with the Holy Ghost, and spoke with holy boldness (Acts 4:8–13). And God promised through Isaiah, “My Spirit… and my words… shall not depart out of thy mouth” (Isaiah 59:21). When the Father speaks through His children, the world recognizes whose family we belong to.

8. The Spirit Keeps Us from Feeling Orphaned (John 14:18)

“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” The word “comfortless” means orphaned. Jesus knew the ache of human loneliness – and promised the cure. “The Spirit of truth… dwelleth with you, and shall be in you” (John 14:16–17).

When life feels barren, when people fail, when family forsakes, remember this: “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up” (Psalm 27:10). The Lord Himself walks beside His own – “Lo, I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). You are never abandoned when the Spirit abides.

9. The Father Gives the Spirit to His Children (Luke 11:13)

“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?” What generosity! The Father delights to fill His children with His Spirit. “Repent, and be baptized… and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38–39).

Jesus cried, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink… this spake He of the Spirit” (John 7:37–39). Every good and perfect gift still comes “from the Father of lights” (James 1:17). Ask Him, child of God, and He will not deny you His presence.

10. The Spirit Reveals Our Inheritance (1 Corinthians 2:12)

“We have received… the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.” The Spirit is both the Teacher and the Treasure. He opens our eyes to what it means to be heirs – “heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17).

The mystery hidden for ages now includes us: “That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs” (Ephesians 3:6). The Father “hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light” (Colossians 1:12–14). O my soul, live like an heir, not a beggar. You are royalty in the household of God.

Friends, this is not a cold doctrine – it’s a living reality. The Spirit of God’s Son is not visiting us; He is dwelling in us. He cries “Abba” because heaven has made its home in your heart.

You are loved, sealed, and spoken for. Walk as a son. Live as a daughter. Let that cry rise from within until every fear, every doubt, every orphan thought bows to this truth: “We are the children of God.”

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
