This Is the Part People Either Avoid or Overlook
There’s a moment in Scripture that people read… and then quietly move past.
Not because it’s unclear.
But because it’s too clear.
When the Spirit was first poured out, something happened that couldn’t be ignored.
They spoke with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
That wasn’t a side detail.
That was the moment.
And if you slow down long enough to really see it, it forces a question most people don’t want to ask out loud.
If that was how it started… why would it be different now?
God Didn’t Leave This Without Evidence
Think about how carefully God set this up.
Salvation is the most important thing in your life.
So why would He make it something you can only guess at?
Why would He leave you wondering if you felt enough, believed enough, or said the right words?
He didn’t.
From the very beginning of the church, He attached evidence to the moment someone received His Spirit.
Not to confuse you.
To anchor you.
So when the Spirit filled people, there was something that followed.
They spoke.
Not from themselves.
From the Spirit.
This Wasn’t Emotional Hype
Let’s be real for a second.
If this was just emotion, it would look different every time.
Some would cry.
Some would shout.
Some would stay quiet.
But that’s not what you see.
You see consistency.
Different people.
Different places.
Same response.
They spoke as the Spirit gave them utterance.
That’s not personality.
That’s pattern.
And patterns in Scripture are there on purpose.
Tongues Didn’t Start With Man
This is what makes it so powerful.
Tongues didn’t originate from human effort.
No one taught it.
No one practiced it.
No one rehearsed it.
The Spirit gave the utterance.
That means the source was God.
The expression was God.
The moment belonged to God.
And that’s why it carries weight.
Because it’s not something you produce.
It’s something you receive.
A Clear Marker in an Invisible Experience
The Holy Spirit is invisible.
You can’t see Him enter a person.
You can’t measure Him with your eyes.
So how do you know when He comes?
God answered that by giving a visible, audible sign.
Tongues became the marker.
Not the only thing the Spirit does.
But the initial expression that something has happened.
Something real.
Something supernatural.
This Is Where Certainty Begins
Before receiving the Spirit, everything can feel uncertain.
You believe.
You hope.
You try to hold onto faith.
But there’s still that quiet question in the background.
“Did it actually happen?”
When the Spirit fills you and gives utterance, that question gets answered.
Not with emotion.
Not with assumption.
With experience.
You move from hoping to knowing.
And that shift changes everything.
It’s Not About Performance
This is where people get uncomfortable.
Because they think tongues is something they have to do.
Something they have to force.
But that misses the whole point.
The Spirit gives the utterance.
You’re not performing.
You’re responding.
It’s not about trying harder.
It’s about yielding.
And when you yield, God does what you can’t.
Why This Still Matters Today
Some try to push this into the past.
They say it was only for the early church.
But the need hasn’t changed.
People still need certainty.
People still need the Spirit.
People still need something real.
And God hasn’t changed the pattern.
What He started with clarity, He didn’t finish with confusion.
More Than a Moment… A Beginning
Tongues is not the finish line.
It’s the starting point.
It’s the first expression of a life now filled with the Spirit.
From there, everything begins to grow.
You start to be led.
You start to change.
You start to walk differently.
But it all traces back to that moment.
That initial evidence.
That clear sign that something has begun.
Why People Settle for Less
Let’s be honest.
It’s easier to settle for something less defined.
Something you can explain away.
Something that doesn’t require you to step out or surrender control.
But that kind of approach leaves you unsure.
Always trying to convince yourself.
Always revisiting the same questions.
God didn’t design salvation to feel like that.
Bringing It All Together
Tongues isn’t about making a point.
It’s about God making something clear.
When the Spirit comes, He gives utterance.
That utterance becomes the sign.
The witness.
The confirmation that you’ve been filled.
Not halfway.
Not vaguely.
But fully.
And once you’ve experienced that, you don’t have to rely on guesswork.
You don’t have to keep asking if it’s real.
Because heaven left its signature.
Clear.
Recognizable.
Unmistakable.
A moment you can point to.
And a foundation you can stand on with confidence moving forward.
