Brethren, let us tremble and rejoice at this truth: God has never left Himself without a voice. From the lips of shepherds and kings, from the mouths of bold prophets and humble fishermen, the Spirit of the Lord has spoken. And He still speaks today – through the same Word, with the same fire, by the same Spirit.
The Spirit of the LORD Spake by Me
2 Samuel 23:2 declares, “The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.” David, that man after God’s own heart, knew he was not the author but the instrument. His harp strings sang what Heaven breathed. The psalms weren’t poetry alone – they were prophecy clothed in melody.
Peter later confirmed it in Acts 1:16: “The Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake.” And Paul adds, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Do we still believe that every Word of God is Spirit-breathed – or have we started editing the Almighty?
The Spirit Came Upon Zechariah
In 2 Chronicles 24:20, “the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah… and said unto them, Thus saith God.” Friends, this was not soft speech – it was confrontation with truth. When sin hardened the people, the Spirit raised a man who would not bend.
Like Balaam in Numbers 24:2 and Gideon in Judges 6:34, he was clothed with divine courage. The Spirit’s voice doesn’t flatter; it pierces rebellion. It doesn’t whisper comfort to pride; it thunders repentance to hearts grown cold.
The Spirit Entered and Set Me Upon My Feet
Ezekiel 2:2 says, “And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet.” The prophet fell as a dead man before the glory, but the Spirit lifted him up.
Have you ever been so overwhelmed by God’s word that it knocked you down before it raised you up? That same presence strengthened Daniel (Daniel 10:10–11) and John (Revelation 1:17). The Spirit not only gives words – He gives the spine to stand and deliver them.
The LORD Touched My Mouth
In Jeremiah 1:9, God reached out His hand and touched the young prophet’s mouth. He did the same to Moses in Exodus 4:12: “I will be with thy mouth.” And to Isaiah in Isaiah 6:7–8, a coal from the altar purified his lips before he cried, “Here am I; send me.” The Spirit’s touch still purifies before it proclaims. The preacher who would speak for God must first let God burn away every lie, fear, and impurity from his own lips. As Paul said, we speak “not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth” (1 Corinthians 2:13).
My Spirit and My Words Shall Not Depart
In Isaiah 59:21, the Lord promises, “My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart.” That’s an eternal partnership – the Spirit and the Word walking side by side.
Jesus confirmed it in John 14:26: the Comforter would bring all His words to remembrance. Brethren, beware of any spirit that drifts from the Word. The Holy Spirit never travels alone. He always carries the Scriptures with Him.
Full of Power by the Spirit of the LORD
Micah cried, “Truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD… to declare unto Jacob his transgression” (Micah 3:8). That’s not arrogance – it’s anointing. The Spirit’s power exposes sin, just as John 16:8 says He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
Amos 3:7 reminds us, “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” O my soul, how the world needs such men again – Spirit-filled voices who love truth more than applause.
The Holy Ghost by the Mouth of David
In Acts 1:16, Peter said, “This scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake.” And Jesus Himself testified, “David himself said by the Holy Ghost” (Mark 12:36).
The same Spirit that inspired the shepherd boy inspired the apostles. One continuous voice, one divine Author. The Spirit doesn’t contradict Himself – He confirms the eternal unity of the Word from Genesis to Revelation.
Holy Men of God Spake as Moved by the Holy Ghost
Hear 2 Peter 1:21: “Prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” Moved – like ships carried by the wind. They weren’t driven by ambition but by inspiration.
John 3:8 paints the picture: “The wind bloweth where it listeth.” Paul said the same Spirit reveals “the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2:10–13). Every prophet’s sail caught that same divine breath, carrying God’s Word into the storms of men’s rebellion.
The Holy Ghost Saith
Hebrews 3:7 says, “Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith…).” Not said – saith. The voice of Scripture is still alive. The Spirit who inspired Psalm 95 is still exhorting hearts today. And Hebrews 10:15–17 reminds us, “Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us.” Every time you read the Bible, the Author is present. Every page breathes, every line speaks.
Hear What the Spirit Saith unto the Churches
And finally, Revelation 2:7: “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” From Genesis’ breath on the waters to Revelation’s call to the churches, the Spirit’s voice never ceases.
John 16:13 promised He would guide into all truth, and Revelation 19:10 declares, “the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” The Spirit’s message hasn’t changed – it’s still Jesus. Always Jesus.
Closing Exhortation
From Moses to John, from psalmist to apostle, one truth resounds: The Word and the Spirit move together. Never divided. Never silent. God’s Word isn’t dead ink – it’s the living voice of the Spirit breathing through ancient tongues to modern hearts. O my soul, have you heard Him? He still speaks through His written Word. He still convicts, comforts, and calls.
So I ask you, brethren – are your ears open? Are your hearts tender? “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith.”
For the same Spirit who once spoke through David, Isaiah, and Peter now whispers through the Scriptures to you. Will you listen? Will you obey? Will you speak His words to a world gone deaf?
