Matthew 14:14 Explained: What Moved Jesus To Heal… And Why That Matters For You

You ever feel like you’re just one of many?

Like if God is really moving, you might get overlooked in the crowd?

You see others touched, helped, restored… and you wonder where that leaves you.

Does He really see you in the middle of everything going on?

Let’s see what the Scripture actually says.

“And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.”
Matthew 14:14 (KJV)

Jesus went forth

This wasn’t random.

Right before this, Jesus had just heard about John the Baptist being killed.

He withdrew to a desert place.

He was trying to be alone.

But then the crowds followed Him anyway.

And when He stepped out… He saw them.

Do you see that moment?

He could have stayed hidden. He could have sent them away.

But He stepped out.

That tells you something about His heart.

Even when He had every reason to pull back, He still moved toward people.

And saw a great multitude

He didn’t just notice a crowd.

He saw them.

That’s different.

Because it’s easy to see a mass of people and miss individuals.

But Jesus doesn’t do that.

Every person in that multitude mattered.

That includes the sick. The hurting. The ones barely holding it together.

“The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.” (Psalm 34:15)

He sees. He hears.

So the quiet question is… do you believe you’re actually seen?

Was moved with compassion

This is where everything shifts.

Healing didn’t start with power.

It started with compassion.

That word means something deep. Not surface-level pity.

It’s something that moves from the inside out.

He felt it… and then He acted.

Do you notice that?

Healing flowed from His heart, not just His authority.

“Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.” (Psalm 103:13)

God’s response to your condition isn’t cold or distant.

It’s personal.

And he healed their sick

Here’s the result.

Compassion turned into action.

He didn’t just feel something and walk away.

He healed.

And it wasn’t selective.

It says “their sick.”

The ones who needed it.

That’s who He responded to.

“Who healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

He moves toward need, not away from it.

That’s not what people expect, is it?

What was really happening here?

This wasn’t just a miracle moment.

This was a revelation of who He is.

In a place of grief, He still gave.

In a moment where He could have turned inward, He turned outward.

And healing followed that compassion.

That shapes how you understand everything else.

Because if you get this wrong, you’ll start thinking healing depends on how well you perform.

But here, it starts with Him.

Let’s sit in this honestly

Because this is where the struggle shows up.

You know He has power.

That’s not the issue.

The real question is… does He want to use it for you?

Or are you the exception?

Are you the one He passes over?

That thought creeps in quietly.

Maybe you’ve felt it.

Do you feel like you have to convince Him to care?

What this is calling you into

This verse brings you back to something simple.

His compassion.

Not your performance.

Not your perfection.

His heart toward you.

That’s where healing begins.

So instead of trying to force something… you come to Him knowing how He already feels.

“Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37)

That’s still true.

So in the middle of whatever you’re facing…

What would it look like to come to Him believing He’s already moved with compassion toward you?

Call to Action: The Question That Demands an Answer

In Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do?

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
