Luke 6:17–19 Explained: If Power Was There For All… Why Don’t All Receive?

You read this and it almost feels uncomfortable.

Power is present. People come. Healing happens.

Not a few. Not selective.

All.

So you sit there thinking…
If it was available to all then, what about now?
Is the issue on His side… or somewhere else?

Let’s see what the Scripture actually says.

The Verse (KJV)

“And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people… which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.”
Luke 6:17–19

He Came Down To Where They Were

“…he came down… and stood in the plain…”

Jesus doesn’t stay distant.

He comes down.

Into the middle of real people. Real needs.

This matters.

Because healing isn’t shown as something far off or unreachable.

He steps into their space.

John 1:14 says the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

So this is who He is.

Present. Near. Accessible.

They Came With A Clear Expectation

“…which came to hear him, and to be healed…”

They didn’t come casually.

They came for two reasons.

To hear.
To be healed.

There’s no separation.

Hearing the Word and receiving healing go together.

Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing.

So as they listen, something builds inside them.

Expectation rises.

Do you see that connection?

Healing Covered Everything That Showed Up

“And they that were vexed with unclean spirits…”

Different conditions. Different causes.

Some physical. Some spiritual.

But the result is the same.

“…and they were healed.”

No category is excluded.

Nothing is too complex.

Jesus doesn’t struggle to sort it out.

He deals with it completely.

They Didn’t Stay Passive

“And the whole multitude sought to touch him…”

This is active.

They’re not just standing there hoping.

They’re reaching.

Pressing in.

Moving toward Him.

Mark 5 shows the woman with the issue of blood doing the same thing.

She says within herself, if I may touch His garment, I shall be whole.

And she acts on it.

So faith here isn’t quiet.

It moves.

Power Was Already Flowing

“…for there went virtue out of him…”

That word “virtue” means power.

It’s flowing from Him.

Not forced. Not occasional.

Present and active.

This lines up with Luke 5:17 where power was present to heal.

So the supply isn’t the issue.

It’s there.

And It Healed Them All

“…and healed them all.”

That’s the part you can’t ignore.

All.

No exceptions mentioned.

Everyone who reached… received.

That’s not what many expect to see.

But it’s right there.

What Was Actually Happening Here

Jesus has just come down from teaching His disciples.

Now He stands before a large crowd.

People from different regions. Different backgrounds.

But they all come with the same focus.

Hear Him. Be healed.

And in that environment, power flows freely.

So this isn’t a rare moment.

It’s a picture of how the kingdom operates when people respond.

Scripture Confirms This Pattern

Matthew 14:35–36 says as many as touched Him were made perfectly whole.

Acts 5:15–16 shows people bringing the sick into the streets, and they were healed every one.

Hebrews 13:8 says Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.

So this isn’t presented as a one-time exception.

It’s consistent with who He is.

The Internal Tension You Might Feel

This is where it gets real.

Because you don’t always see “all” healed.

You’ve seen delay. You’ve seen unanswered prayers.

So part of you pulls back from verses like this.

You don’t want to misread it.

But you also don’t want to ignore it.

So you sit in that tension.

Is this still true?
Or am I supposed to adjust my expectations?

Do you feel that?

What This Is Calling You Into

This passage doesn’t give a complicated system.

It shows a response.

They came.
They heard.
They reached.

And power met them there.

So your direction is clear.

Come to Him through His Word.

Let faith build as you hear.

And don’t stay at a distance.

Reach.

Act on what you believe.

Not because you’ve seen everything already.

But because the power is still in Him.

So in your situation right now…
what would it look like to stop standing back and actually reach toward Him?

Closing Thought

The power was there.

The people responded.

And they were healed.

So the real question is…

Are you waiting to feel certain before you move, or are you willing to reach for Him and trust that what flows from Him is still enough?

Call to Action: The Question That Demands an Answer

In Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do?

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
