Luke 10:8–9 Explained: If Healing Was Part Of The Message… Why Did We Separate It?

You’ve probably heard the message preached.

God is good. The kingdom is near. There’s hope.

But when it comes to healing… things suddenly get quieter.

Less certain. Less expected.

So now you’re left with a gap.

If the kingdom is real… why doesn’t it look like this?

Let’s see what the Scripture actually says.

“And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.”

Luke 10:8–9 (KJV)

“Into whatsoever city ye enter… and they receive you”

This is about going.

Not waiting for perfect conditions. Not staying where it’s comfortable.

You enter. You step into places. You meet people.

And notice this part. “If they receive you.”

That means response matters.

Not everyone will be open. Not everyone will welcome it.

But where there is openness… something happens.

Do you see that?

“Eat such things as are set before you”

This sounds small, but it isn’t.

It’s about being present.

Not distant. Not separate. Not above people.

You sit with them. You engage. You stay connected.

The kingdom doesn’t move through distance.

It moves through real contact.

“Heal the sick that are therein”

This is direct.

No explanation added. No conditions listed here.

Just… heal the sick.

And it’s given as an instruction, not a suggestion.

That’s important.

Because this is part of what they were sent to do.

Not optional. Not secondary.

Do you notice how simple that is?

“And say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh”

Here’s the connection.

Healing… and then the message.

Not just talk. Not just explanation.

Demonstration… then declaration.

The healing shows something.

The kingdom is near.

Not distant. Not theoretical.

Near enough to affect real situations.

That’s not how most people frame it, is it?

What’s happening in this moment

This isn’t the twelve in Luke 9.

This is the seventy.

A wider group.

Jesus sends them out into different cities with a clear instruction.

Carry the message. Heal the sick. Show what the kingdom looks like.

This expands the pattern.

What started with the twelve now moves outward.

That matters.

Scripture that confirms this pattern

In Matthew 10:7–8,
“As ye go, preach… Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers…”

Same order. Preach and heal together.

In Mark 6:13,
“They cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.”

Again, action tied to the message.

In Acts 4:29–30,
“Grant… that… signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.”

Even after Jesus, the pattern continues.

The part most people wrestle with

Here’s the tension.

You’ve heard the message.

But you haven’t always seen the demonstration.

So now you’re trying to make sense of that gap.

Maybe you’ve adjusted your expectations.

Maybe you’ve separated what Jesus kept together.

“Preach… but don’t expect healing.”

That’s subtle, but it changes everything.

Is that what’s happened for you?

What this is calling you into

This isn’t asking you to force anything.

It’s showing you what was originally connected.

The kingdom isn’t just words.

It’s reality breaking into real situations.

And healing is one of the ways that shows up.

So this becomes a question of response.

Do you treat healing like something uncertain… or something He included in the message?

It also brings you back to presence.

Going. Being with people. Not staying distant.

What would it look like for you to take both parts seriously… not just one?

Bringing it back to you

Jesus didn’t send them with words alone.

He sent them with a message and an expression of that message.

Heal the sick.

Say the kingdom is near.

That’s the pattern.

So if the kingdom is still being preached… why would the part that shows it be left out?

Call to Action: The Question That Demands an Answer

In Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do?

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
