Most people don’t struggle to talk about God.
They struggle to explain what actually happens when someone is saved.
You’ve probably felt that moment. Someone asks, “What does it mean to be born again?” and suddenly it feels hard to put into words.
Not because it’s complicated… but because it’s been made complicated.
Jesus didn’t make it confusing.
He said, “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
That’s simple. Clear. Direct.
So when you explain it to someone, don’t start with opinions. Start where Jesus started.
Tell them this.
Being born again isn’t about becoming religious. It’s about becoming new. Just like natural birth brings you into this world, spiritual birth brings you into God’s kingdom.
And that birth has two parts.
Water… and Spirit.
You can break it down in a way anyone can understand.
First, repentance. Turning from sin and turning toward God. Not just feeling sorry, but making a real decision to change direction.
Then baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. That’s where the old life is buried. The Bible says we are buried with Him by baptism into death. It’s not a symbol you admire. It’s a step you take. When you go down in that water, your past is left behind.
Then comes the Spirit.
And this is where it becomes real for people.
You can say it like this.
“When God fills you with His Spirit, you don’t have to guess. He makes Himself known.”
In the Bible, when people received the Holy Ghost, they spoke with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. That wasn’t something they learned. That was something God gave in the moment.
And it happened more than once.
Acts 2. Acts 10. Acts 19.
Different people. Same experience.
So when you explain it, you’re not sharing an idea.
You’re pointing to a pattern.
You’re showing them what Jesus said… and what people actually experienced when they followed it.
And here’s the key.
Keep it real.
Don’t try to sound polished or theological. Talk like you would to someone sitting across from you.
You can say, “I didn’t just believe something. I experienced it. I repented. I was baptized. And when God filled me, I knew it. I heard it. It changed me.”
That lands.
Because people don’t just need information.
They need clarity.
And they need to know it’s possible for them too.
So remind them.
This promise isn’t just for the early church. Peter said, “The promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off.”
That includes them.
And it includes now.
So when you explain the new birth, don’t overcomplicate it.
Just walk them through it.
Water buries the old life.
The Spirit fills the new one.
And when the Spirit comes, He gives you proof.
That’s it.
And once they see it clearly, the conversation shifts.
It’s no longer, “What does this mean?”
It becomes, “What do I need to do?”
And that’s the moment everything can change.
Because you’re not just explaining something.
You’re opening a door.
And that’s something they can walk through… and know for sure.
