Let’s start with something that sounds simple… but most people don’t stop and think about.
“To them that have obtained like precious faith with us…” (2 Peter 1:1, KJV)
Peter is talking to ordinary believers. Not apostles. Not a special class.
And he says they have the same kind of faith.
Not a smaller version. Not a weaker version.
The same kind.
So if the apostles walked in boldness, clarity, and power… what’s the difference?
Why does it feel like their faith multiplied, while ours often stays the same?
Let’s walk through it.
“Like Precious Faith” Means Same Source, Not Same Growth
The faith you received didn’t come from you.
It came from God.
“…through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:1, KJV)
That means the starting point is equal.
But growth is not automatic.
Two people can receive the same seed and end up with completely different results.
Not because the seed is different… but because what happens after matters.
Multiplication Starts With Knowing God Personally
Peter doesn’t jump straight into effort. He starts with relationship.
“Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God…” (2 Peter 1:2, KJV)
That word “knowledge” is not surface-level.
It’s personal. Experiential. Ongoing.
This is where faith begins to multiply.
Not by trying harder… but by knowing Him deeper.
Because when you know God more clearly, trusting Him becomes natural.
Everything You Need Has Already Been Given
Here’s something that changes how you see growth.
“His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness…” (2 Peter 1:3, KJV)
Not some things.
All things.
So you’re not trying to earn something you don’t have.
You’re learning to walk in what’s already been provided.
That’s a shift.
Faith multiplies when you stop striving for what God has already given… and start receiving it.
The Promises Are Meant to Be Participated In
Peter goes further:
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises…” (2 Peter 1:4, KJV)
These promises are not decorations on the page.
They are invitations.
He says:
“…that by these ye might be partakers…” (2 Peter 1:4, KJV)
Partakers means you step into it. You engage with it.
You don’t just read about peace. You trust God in the middle of anxiety.
You don’t just read about provision. You rely on Him when things are tight.
That’s how faith moves from theory to experience.
Faith Multiplies Through Intentional Growth
Now Peter gives the progression:
“Giving all diligence, add to your faith…” (2 Peter 1:5, KJV)
This is where multiplication becomes practical.
Faith is not meant to stay at the starting point.
You add to it.
Step by step.
Virtue. Knowledge. Temperance. Patience. Godliness. Brotherly kindness. Charity.
Each step strengthens the next.
This is not random growth.
This is structured development.
Obedience Turns Addition Into Multiplication
Here’s where it clicks.
When you respond to what God shows you, something increases.
“If these things be in you, and abound…” (2 Peter 1:8, KJV)
Abound means overflow.
Not just present… growing.
This is the difference between knowing and doing.
Every act of obedience reinforces your faith.
And over time, what you add begins to multiply.
The Holy Spirit Empowers the Process
Let’s not miss this.
None of this happens by your own strength.
Pentecost shows us that clearly.
“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost…” (Acts 2:4, KJV)
After that, everything changed.
The same faith that once struggled became bold.
The same people who hesitated now moved with confidence.
Why?
Because the Spirit empowered what was already there.
Paul says:
“…strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.” (Ephesians 3:16, KJV)
That inner strengthening is what allows faith to grow beyond what you could sustain on your own.
Unused Faith Doesn’t Multiply
Let’s be real.
If you don’t use your faith, it stays where it is.
Think about the parable of the talents.
“For unto every one that hath shall be given…” (Matthew 25:29, KJV)
What was used increased.
What was buried stayed the same… and was eventually lost.
Faith works the same way.
If you never step out, never trust, never act… it doesn’t grow.
Not because it can’t.
But because it’s not being exercised.
Pressure Reveals and Refines Faith
Growth is not always comfortable.
“The trial of your faith… though it be tried with fire…” (1 Peter 1:7, KJV)
Trials don’t destroy real faith.
They reveal it. Strengthen it. Refine it.
This is where multiplication often happens the most.
When you choose to trust God in difficulty, your faith deepens in a way comfort can’t produce.
What Multiplying Faith Actually Looks Like
It’s not just bigger belief.
It’s stronger trust.
You respond quicker.
You doubt less.
You stand firmer.
Not because life got easier… but because your confidence in God grew.
That’s multiplication.
Bringing It Into Your Life
So where do you start?
Not by trying to jump to the end.
Start with what you already have.
Stay in the Word.
Grow in knowing God personally.
Act on what He shows you.
Depend on the Holy Spirit.
And keep going.
Step by step.
Final Thought
You already have “like precious faith.”
That’s not the issue.
The question is… what are you doing with it?
Because faith is not meant to stay the same.
It’s designed to grow. To strengthen. To multiply.
And when you walk the path God laid out, empowered by His Spirit, what started as something small becomes something steady, strong, and unshakable.
That’s how “like precious faith” actually multiplies.
Call to Action: The Question That Demands an AnswerIn Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do? And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
