God Will Not Overlook Violence
Violence is not new. It’s ancient. It’s the mark of a world that has forgotten God. The same Hamas that filled the earth in Noah’s day fills hearts today – cruelty, corruption, and injustice. But as in the days of Noah, the Lord will again arise to judge and to save.
The blood of the innocent cries out. The violence of man climbs to heaven. Yet there is hope for those who turn from wickedness and call upon the name of the Lord. For every act of cruelty, God has a day of reckoning – and a door of mercy still stands open.
The Ancient Word with a Modern Echo
Friends, did you know the word “Hamas” isn’t just a headline – it’s a Hebrew word straight from the Bible? It means violence, cruelty, injustice, wrong, or damage. It appears over sixty times across Scripture, from Genesis to Malachi.
And while today’s militant group bears that same name by coincidence, the spiritual parallel is sobering. What the world now calls Hamas, God once called the corruption of the earth.
In Genesis 6:11–13, the earth was “corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence (Hamas).” God said, “The end of all flesh is come before me.” The first time Hamas appeared in Scripture, the world was judged for it. The flood came not because of politics or war – but because of unchecked violence and moral decay.
And Jesus warned, “As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man” (Luke 17:26). Brethren, when violence fills the earth again, it’s a sign that the Judge is at the door.
The Pattern Repeats – From Noah to Now
The Bible records that Hamas didn’t just mark the pre-flood world – it tainted nations, families, and rulers throughout Israel’s history. Genesis 49:5 calls the weapons of Simeon and Levi “instruments of cruelty (Hamas).” Their anger led to bloodshed and division. What began in hearts became actions that destroyed brotherhood.
Psalm 74:20 cries, “The dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty (Hamas).” Doesn’t that sound like our world today? When lawlessness fills the streets, when innocent blood is spilled, when lies spread faster than truth – Hamas has filled the land again.
In Proverbs 4:17, the wicked “eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence (Hamas).” It’s a feast of sin – a society intoxicated by hate, feeding on cruelty, and calling it power. But God sees every drop of blood and every deceitful hand.
Violence Against God’s People
The prophets didn’t stay silent. They spoke of nations that turned against Judah with Hamas in their hearts. Joel 3:19 declares, “Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom a desolate wilderness, for the violence (Hamas) against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.”
Do you see the pattern? Violence against God’s people never ends well for those who commit it. Obadiah 1:10 warns, “For thy violence (Hamas) against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.”
Brethren, every act of hatred against the people of God carries a cost. Nations rise and fall, but God’s justice never fails.
The Violent Man and His Own Trap
Psalm 7:16 says, “His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent (Hamas) dealing shall come down upon his own pate.” In other words, the trap the violent man sets will snap shut on himself. You reap what you sow.
And again in Psalm 11:5, “The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence (Hamas) his soul hateth.” That’s strong language. God doesn’t just disapprove of violence – He hates it. Because every act of cruelty defaces His image in man. Every blow struck in hatred is rebellion against the God of peace.
The Cry of the Prophet
The prophet Habakkuk cried out in frustration: “O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! Even cry out unto thee of violence (Hamas), and thou wilt not save!” (Habakkuk 1:2). Do you feel that cry today? When you watch the news, when you see innocent blood spilled, when you wonder how long evil will go unpunished – Habakkuk’s cry is your cry.
But God answered him. “The just shall live by his faith” (Habakkuk 2:4). When the world burns with Hamas, the righteous must stand firm in faith. Not fear, not revenge, but faith.
Even the Covenant Was Covered in Violence
Malachi 2:16 delivers a personal warning: “The LORD, the God of Israel, saith that He hateth putting away: for one covereth violence (Hamas) with his garment.” God is saying – don’t hide sin under the cloak of religion. Don’t wrap cruelty in the language of faith. He sees beneath the garment.
Violence doesn’t always look like war. Sometimes it’s the bitterness we harbor, the harsh words we justify, the injustices we ignore. Hamas starts in the heart long before it reaches the hands.
The Hope Beyond Violence
Praise be to God – there is a remedy. The same Lord who judged violence in Noah’s day also provided an ark of salvation. And today that Ark has a name: Jesus Christ.
The cross looked violent, but it was the place where violence met its end. “He was wounded for our transgressions” (Isaiah 53:5). The innocent Lamb of God took upon Himself all the cruelty, injustice, and bloodshed of mankind. He absorbed the world’s Hamas – and conquered it with love.
So yes, the world is full of violence again. But the gospel still cries, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). There is still time to enter the Ark.
Final Call: Don’t Join the Ways of the Violent
Proverbs 3:31 warns, “Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.” Don’t let hate seduce you. Don’t let bitterness shape you. The Lord will avenge, the Lord will repay. Be found on the side of mercy when judgment falls.
Friends, the Bible’s use of Hamas is not about a political movement – it’s about a moral condition. It’s the spirit of rebellion, hatred, and cruelty that filled the earth once before. And if history is any guide, the return of such violence means the return of the Lord is near.
Call to Action: The Question That Demands an AnswerIn Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do? And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
