Faith: Trusting in God’s Promises and Character

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Faith is an essential aspect of Christianity. It involves trusting in God’s promises and character, even when we cannot see the outcome. Faith means believing that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do. It is a fundamental part of our relationship with God and is crucial for our spiritual growth.

As Christians, we are called to trust in God’s promises and character. The Bible is full of examples of people who put their faith in God, even when it seemed impossible.

Abraham trusted God when He promised him descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky (Genesis 15:5). Moses trusted God when He called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 3-4).

David trusted God when he faced Goliath (1 Samuel 17). These stories show us that faith is not just a feeling; it is a decision to trust in God’s promises and character.

Trust in God’s Promises

Trusting in God’s promises is an essential aspect of faith. It involves believing that God will fulfill the things He has promised us in His word. The Bible is full of promises that we can hold onto in times of trouble, and it is up to us to trust that God will come through for us.

Here are ten examples of God’s promises found in the KJV Bible:

Bible Story Examples

Here are three examples of Bible stories that demonstrate the importance of trusting in God’s promises:

  • Abraham and Sarah: Despite their old age, God promised Abraham and Sarah that they would have a child. Though it seemed impossible, they trusted in God’s promise and Isaac was born (Genesis 17:15-19; 21:1-7).
  • David and Goliath: David trusted in God’s promise that he would be victorious over Goliath, despite being a young shepherd boy facing a giant warrior. He defeated Goliath with a single stone and a sling (1 Samuel 17).
  • Daniel in the lions’ den: Daniel trusted in God’s promise of protection and continued to pray to God, despite a decree that made it illegal. God shut the lions’ mouths and Daniel was unharmed (Daniel 6).

Trusting in God’s promises can be difficult, especially when we don’t see immediate results. But we must remember that God is faithful and will keep His promises. We can have confidence in Him and trust that He will come through for us in His perfect timing.

Confidence in God’s Character

Trusting in God’s promises requires confidence in His character. As I read through the Bible, I am reminded of the many times God has proven Himself faithful. He is a God of love, mercy, and grace.

He is just and righteous, and His ways are perfect. When I put my faith in Him, I can trust that He will always do what is best for me.

One of the ways I build my confidence in God’s character is by reading His Word. The Bible is full of stories of God’s faithfulness to His people. I am encouraged by the stories of Abraham, Moses, and David, who trusted in God’s promises even when their circumstances seemed impossible.

Another way I build my confidence in God’s character is by praying and seeking His guidance. When I am faced with difficult decisions or uncertain circumstances, I turn to God in prayer. I trust that He will lead me in the right direction and give me the strength I need to face whatever comes my way.

Finally, I build my confidence in God’s character by looking at the world around me. I see His hand in the beauty of nature, the kindness of others, and the miracles that happen every day. When I see God’s goodness in the world, I am reminded of His faithfulness to me.

  • Moses’ trust in God’s provision in the wilderness (Exodus 16:1-35)
  • David’s confidence in God’s protection from his enemies (Psalm 27:1-3)

Belief in the Unseen

As a person of faith, I believe in the existence of things that cannot be seen or touched. This includes the promises of God, who has revealed himself to us through his word. Believing in the unseen requires trust in God’s character, knowing that he is faithful and true to his word.

In the Bible, we see many examples of people who believed in the unseen and were blessed because of it.

Abraham, for instance, believed in God’s promise that he would be the father of many nations, even though he and his wife were beyond childbearing age. Because of his belief, God credited him with righteousness and fulfilled his promise by giving him a son, Isaac.

Similarly, Moses believed in the unseen when he led the Israelites out of Egypt. He trusted in God’s promise to deliver them from slavery, even though the journey was difficult and uncertain.

Because of his faith, he was able to witness God’s miraculous provision and guidance throughout their journey.

Believing in the unseen requires us to trust in God’s promises and character, even when circumstances suggest otherwise. It is a reminder that our faith is not based on what we can see or understand, but on the unchanging nature of God.

Dependence on God

As a person of faith, I understand that dependence on God is crucial. It means that I trust in God’s promises and character, and I believe that He will provide for me in all circumstances. I recognize that I cannot control everything in my life, but I can trust that God is in control and that He has a plan for me.

When I depend on God, I am acknowledging that I need Him and that I cannot do everything on my own. This is a humbling experience, but it also brings me peace and comfort. I know that God loves me and that He wants what is best for me, so I can trust Him completely.

According to the KJV Bible, there are many statements that emphasize the importance of dependence on God. Here are ten examples:

ActionBenefit
Trust in the LordHe will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Wait on the LordHe will strengthen your heart (Psalm 27:14)
Seek first the kingdom of GodAll these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33)

Fear the LordYou will have wisdom (Proverbs 9:10)
Obey the LordYou will be blessed (Deuteronomy 28:2)
Love the LordHe will deliver you (Psalm 91:14-15)

These statements show that dependence on God is not just a nice idea, but it is essential for our spiritual well-being. When we trust in God and rely on Him, we can experience His love, guidance, and provision in our lives.

Bible Story Examples:

Here are three examples from the Bible that illustrate the importance of dependence on God:

  • In the story of Joseph, he faced many trials and challenges, but he never lost faith in God. Through his dependence on God, he was able to interpret dreams, lead Egypt through a famine, and ultimately save his family from starvation.
  • In the story of David and Goliath, David faced an impossible task of defeating a giant. However, he trusted in God’s strength and not his own, and he was able to defeat Goliath with just a stone and a sling.
  • In the story of the Israelites crossing the Red Sea, they were trapped between the sea and the pursuing Egyptian army. However, God parted the sea and led them to safety. Through their dependence on God, they were able to escape their enemies and continue their journey to the Promised Land.

These examples show that when we depend on God, we can accomplish great things and overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. It is my belief that dependence on God is not a weakness, but a strength that can bring us closer to Him and help us fulfill His purpose for our lives.
