Born Again and Still Growing

Some people think once you’re born again, that’s it.

Everything should instantly be perfect. No struggles. No questions. Just a smooth path from that moment on.

But that’s not how life works… even naturally.

A newborn is fully alive, but not fully developed.

And the same is true spiritually.

When you’re born again, something real happens. Your sins are washed away. The Spirit fills you. You speak with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. There’s a moment you can point to and say, “That’s when it changed.”

But that moment isn’t the finish line.

It’s the starting point.

The Bible says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”

Notice that.

Born… and then grow.

Because new life always grows.

This is where many people get discouraged. They’ve experienced the new birth, but they still face old thoughts, habits, or struggles. And they start wondering if something went wrong.

But the issue isn’t that the new birth didn’t happen.

It’s that growth takes time.

Being born again doesn’t remove your responsibility to walk in the Spirit. It gives you the ability to.

Before, you were trying to change without power.

Now, the Spirit lives in you, and He leads you into change.

That’s the difference.

Paul said, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Living is the new birth.

Walking is the growth.

And walking implies steps. Movement. Progress. Sometimes slow, sometimes steady, but always forward.

There will be moments where you feel strong. Moments where you feel weak. Times where everything seems clear, and times where you have to lean harder on God.

That doesn’t cancel the new birth.

It confirms that you’re learning to live in it.

Think about a child learning to walk. There are stumbles. There are falls. But no one questions whether that child is alive just because they’re not walking perfectly yet.

The same applies here.

You don’t measure your new birth by perfection.

You measure it by life.

Is the Spirit in you?

Is He speaking through you?

Is He leading you, correcting you, drawing you closer?

That’s growth.

And over time, something begins to change more and more.

Your desires shift.

Your reactions soften.

Your hunger for God increases.

Not because you’re forcing it… but because the life inside you is developing.

“The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”

That’s progression.

That’s growth.

So don’t confuse the beginning with the end.

Being born again is a real, powerful moment. One you can know for sure. But from that moment forward, you’re stepping into a life that unfolds daily.

A life led by the Spirit.

A life shaped by the Word.

A life that keeps growing.

So if you’ve been born again and you’re still in process, don’t let that discourage you.

You’re not failing.

You’re growing.

And as long as the Spirit is alive in you, leading you, and drawing you forward, you’re exactly where you need to be.

Because new life doesn’t stay still.

It grows.

And that’s something you can know for sure.
