In Christ, I Am Who GOD Says I Am
Brethren, hear this and let it settle deep. In Christ I am not what my past whispers, not what my fears predict, not what culture markets, and not what failure stamps on my forehead.
I am a new creature by the blood of Jesus. I am a child of God with a real Father. I am forgiven, accepted, indwelt, commissioned, and secure. This is not self-help. This is Scripture. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
“He hath made him to be sin for us… that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). I will not answer to old names when God has given me His. Friends, praise the Lord. By grace, through faith, in Christ, this is who we are.
Who Are You Really?
Friends, be honest. Have you ever stared into the mirror and heard labels talk louder than truth? Failure. Average. Too far gone. Not enough. The world slaps stickers on souls.
But the Father speaks a better word. “As many as received him… to them gave he power to become the sons of God” (John 1:12). Power to become. Not a wish. Not a vibe. Power.
Praise be to God. We do not build identity from the shaky ground of performance. We receive identity from the finished work of Jesus. He took what was ours, sin and shame.
He gave what is His, righteousness and sonship. That is more than a clean slate. That is a new heart. “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you” (Ezekiel 36:26).
The Great Exchange You Can Trust
Brethren, the cross is not an ornament. It is a legal verdict and a living fountain. At the cross Jesus took our record. In His resurrection He gave us His standing. “Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).
Peace with God means the case is closed. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
Let that preach to your anxious mind. No condemnation. Not when you had a good week. Not when you stumbled and got back up with tears. No condemnation because your life is “hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).
New Name. New Nature. New Way To Walk.
Thank You Lord. Identity does not sit on a shelf. Identity walks. Identity works. Identity worships.
- New Name. God calls you saint, not because you have never failed, but because Christ has never failed you.
- New Nature. You are not stuck. “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). New desires grow where old chains fell.
- New Way. We put off the old garments and put on what fits our family. “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness… longsuffering” (Colossians 3:12).
Is this effort? Yes. But it is grace-powered effort. We do not strive to become children. We strive because we are children. “I am crucified with Christ… yet not I, but Christ liveth in me” (Galatians 2:20).
Where Do I Live Now?
The Bible gives simple pictures because we are simple people.
Vine and branches. “I am the vine, ye are the branches… he that abideth in me… bringeth forth much fruit” (John 15:5). Apart from Him we wither. With Him we flourish. Your job today is not to manufacture fruit. Your job is to abide.
Temple of the Spirit. “Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost” (1 Corinthians 6:19). You carry God’s presence into traffic, meetings, kitchens, and valleys. Act like a sanctuary. Speak like a sanctuary. Decide like a sanctuary.
Heavenly citizens. “Our conversation is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20). We live here, but we are from there. Ambassadors do not copy the customs of the country they are sent to. They carry the customs of the King who sent them.
Royal priesthood. “Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people” (1 Peter 2:9). Chosen to draw near. Chosen to stand between. Chosen to proclaim. Your prayers matter. Your worship matters. Your witness matters.
The Rhythm Of Identity: Believe. Belong. Behave.
Believe the Word. When feelings shout, let Scripture speak louder. “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). Fear is not your identity. Power, love, sound mind. That is your inheritance.
Belong to the Body. “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular” (1 Corinthians 12:27). Lone wolf Christianity turns strong saints into soft targets. Stay planted. Serve someone. Receive from someone.
Behave like who you are. Not to earn. To express. You are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8). You are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works (Ephesians 2:10). Do the good that fits your design.
When Old Labels Return
They will try. The accuser never retires. What do we do?
- Answer with Scripture. It is written. Forgiven. Justified. Beloved.
- Run to the throne. “Come boldly unto the throne of grace” (Hebrews 4:16). Boldly means today, not after you fix yourself.
- Stand in armor. Truth buckled, righteousness guarding, faith raised, salvation settled, Word ready, prayer constant. You are not naked in a war. You are dressed by God.
- Remember the outcome. “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:37). More than conquerors. Not barely making it. More.
Everyday Pictures For Everyday Saints
Picture a dad teaching a child to ride. Wobbles, scrapes, tears. The father does not walk away. He steadies. He smiles. He runs alongside. Brethren, that is grace. You will grow into the name He gave you.
Picture a branch in summer. Quiet. Rooted. Fruit shows up because life flows in. Friends, keep your Bible open and your heart soft. Keep short accounts with sin. Keep close to Jesus. Fruit will come.
Picture a passport. You can visit many places, but your citizenship stays the same. When culture pushes and peers press, open your passport. Heaven is stamped on your soul.
Gospel Comforts That Carry You
Let your heart rehearse these truths until they sing.
- I am forgiven. “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Ephesians 1:7).
- I am accepted. “Accepted in the beloved” (Ephesians 1:6).
- I am at peace with God. “We have peace with God” (Romans 5:1).
- I am not condemned. “Now no condemnation” (Romans 8:1).
- I am indwelt. “Temple of the Holy Ghost” (1 Corinthians 6:19).
- I am equipped. “God hath not given us the spirit of fear… but of power” (2 Timothy 1:7).
- I am purposed. “Created in Christ Jesus unto good works” (Ephesians 2:10).
- I am becoming. “We shall be like him… every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself” (1 John 3:2–3).
Say them. Pray them. Share them. Live them.
A Loving Warning And A Clear Call
Beloved, there is danger when we forget who we are. Old sins start to feel normal. Old crowds start to feel comfortable. Old lies start to feel true. Do not trade your birthright for a bowl of feelings. Abide. Obey. Walk worthy. The time is short. The world is loud. The Lord is near.
And there is invitation for the one who has never come. Friend, why carry guilt you were never built to carry? Why chase names that cannot save? Come to Jesus. Believe on His name. “To them gave he power to become the sons of God” (John 1:12). Today can be your new beginning.
A Simple Rule For Tomorrow Morning
Before you reach for the phone, reach for the Word. Read a verse that names you. Pray it back to the Father. Wear it like a coat. Then go live like it is true. Because it is.
Praise the Lord. Thank You Lord. Praise be to God.
Final Declaration
I am who God says I am.
New creature in Christ. Righteous in Christ. Beloved in Christ.
Child, saint, temple, ambassador, priest, light.
I will believe it. I will belong to the Body. I will behave like a son or daughter of the King.
For Christ liveth in me (Galatians 2:20). For my citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20).
For He that called me is faithful.
Amen.
