10 Bible Examples of Bad Mothers

I have a list of 10 mothers that did bad things. Lot’s wife, Jezebel, Athaliah, Herodias, The Woman in 1 Kings 3, and the Unfaithful wife in Proverbs, I would class as bad mothers, however, the others just did some bad things that caused drama in their families, but calling them bad mothers might be a bit harsh.

Bible Examples of Bad Mothers

  1. Eve (Genesis 3:6, 4:8)
    • Disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit.
    • Her son Cain killed his brother Abel.
    • Brought sin and death into the world.
  2. Sarah (Genesis 16:6, 21:10)
    • Mistreated her maidservant Hagar.
    • Insisted on casting out Hagar and her son Ishmael.
    • Actions led to strife and division in her family.
  3. Lot’s wife (Genesis 19:26)
    • Disobeyed God’s command not to look back at Sodom.
    • Turned into a pillar of salt.
    • Failed to protect and guide her family.
  4. Rebekah (Genesis 27)
    • Deceived her husband Isaac.
    • Favored Jacob over Esau, causing family conflict.
    • Contributed to Esau’s bitterness and Jacob’s exile.
  5. Jezebel (1 Kings 16:31, 21:25)
    • Led Israel into idolatry.
    • Murdered Naboth to acquire his vineyard.
    • Her actions brought divine judgment on her family.
