Why God’s Promises Matter Today

Why God’s Promises Matter Today

Everything Around You Changes… So What Can You Actually Trust?

Let’s be honest.

Plans change. People change. Circumstances shift overnight.

What felt stable last year might feel uncertain right now.

So you start asking, Is anything actually solid?

That’s where God’s promises stand out.

Because they don’t move with culture.

They don’t adjust with opinion.

They don’t weaken with time.

They stay.

God’s Promises Don’t Expire

Here’s what Scripture says.

“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20, KJV).

All.

Not some.

Not the ones that fit the moment.

All.

That means what God spoke then… still stands now.

Because His promises are not tied to trends.

They’re tied to His character.

And His character doesn’t change.

The World Shifts… God Doesn’t

You’ve seen it.

What people call truth today can be questioned tomorrow.

Values shift. Standards move. Opinions flip.

But God is not like that.

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8, KJV).

That consistency matters.

Because if God changed like everything else, you couldn’t rely on anything He said.

But because He doesn’t change… His Word stays steady.

Holding On When You Don’t See It Yet

This is where it gets real.

Believing a promise is easy when you see it happening.

It’s harder when nothing looks like it’s changing.

That’s why this matters.

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)” (Hebrews 10:23, KJV).

Notice what it points to.

Not your strength.

Not your ability to believe perfectly.

His faithfulness.

That’s what holds the promise in place.

God’s Promises Are Not Based on Your Performance

This is where people get tripped up.

They think, Maybe I missed it.

Maybe I didn’t do enough.

But God’s promises don’t come from your perfection.

They come from His.

“If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself” (2 Timothy 2:13, KJV).

That doesn’t remove responsibility.

But it does remove the pressure of trying to earn what God already declared.

The Gap Between Promise and Reality

Let’s talk about the waiting.

Because that’s where people struggle most.

You read the promise… but your life doesn’t match it yet.

That gap can feel frustrating.

Confusing.

Even discouraging.

But Scripture shows something important.

“For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise” (Hebrews 10:36, KJV).

There’s a process.

And the process doesn’t cancel the promise.

It prepares you for it.

Abraham: A Promise That Took Time

Think about Abraham.

God promised him a son.

But years passed.

Nothing changed.

Yet Scripture says,

“He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith” (Romans 4:20, KJV).

That didn’t mean it was easy.

It meant he chose to hold on… even when he couldn’t see it yet.

That’s what faith looks like.

Not ignoring reality.

But trusting God beyond it.

Pentecost: A Promise Fulfilled at the Right Time

Now connect this to something powerful.

Jesus told His disciples to wait for a promise.

“But wait for the promise of the Father” (Acts 1:4, KJV).

They didn’t see it immediately.

They had to wait.

Then at the right moment…

“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:4, KJV).

The promise came.

Not early.

Not late.

Right on time.

That’s how God works.

Why This Matters for You Right Now

Because you’re living in a world that constantly shifts.

And if you build your life on that… you’ll feel unstable.

But when you anchor yourself in God’s promises, something changes.

You become steady… even when things around you aren’t.

You don’t react the same way.

You don’t panic the same way.

Because you’re holding onto something that doesn’t move.

How to Actually Hold On

This isn’t just about knowing promises.

It’s about staying connected to them.

Speak them
Don’t let them stay in your head. Say them out loud.

Think on them
Let them shape how you see your situation.

Return to them
When doubt comes, go back to what God said.

Stay consistent
Not just when you feel strong. Especially when you don’t.

Final Question

What are you building your life on right now?

Something that shifts…

Or something that stands?

Because God’s promises are not outdated.

They’re not symbolic.

They’re still active.

Still true.

Still available.

And if you hold onto them… they will hold you steady when everything else tries to move.

Call to Action: The Question That Demands an Answer

In Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do?

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
