You ever expect God to move one way… and then it looks completely different?
Not instant. Not simple. Not what you pictured.
And now you’re wondering… did something go wrong?
Or is this still Him working?
Let’s see what the Scripture actually says.
“And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;
And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.”
(KJV)
He didn’t come on his own
“They bring unto him one that was deaf…”
This man didn’t initiate it.
Others brought him.
They believed enough to carry him into that moment.
And what did they ask?
“To put his hand upon him.”
Simple expectation.
Just touch him.
Do you see that?
They had a picture of how this should go.
But Jesus didn’t do it that way
“He took him aside from the multitude…”
First, He separates him.
Not a public moment.
Personal.
Then it gets even more unexpected.
“He put his fingers into his ears…”
“He… touched his tongue…”
This isn’t the usual pattern.
No quick word. No immediate declaration.
It’s physical. Intentional. different.
That’s not what many expect, is it?
There was something deeper happening
“Looking up to heaven, he sighed…”
That sigh matters.
It shows compassion.
Connection.
He’s not distant from this situation.
Then He speaks one word:
“Be opened.”
And what happens?
“Straightway his ears were opened…”
Immediate again.
Even though the process looked different.
Do you see that?
The method changed.
The result didn’t.
This fits a bigger picture
Jesus didn’t always heal the same way.
Sometimes He spoke.
Sometimes He touched.
Sometimes people reached out.
But the outcome stayed consistent.
“He healed them all”
(Matthew 12:15)
“All things are possible to him that believeth”
(Mark 9:23)
So the focus isn’t the method.
It’s Him.
But this is where people get stuck
When it doesn’t look how you expected… doubt creeps in.
You start thinking… maybe this isn’t working.
Maybe something’s off.
Because it doesn’t match what you’ve seen before.
But what if the difference isn’t the problem?
What if it’s still Him… just working in a way you didn’t plan?
Do you feel that tension?
Look at what mattered most
They brought him.
Jesus responded.
There was connection.
There was intention.
And when He spoke… everything changed.
The process didn’t cancel the power.
It carried it.
Another place shows the same truth:
“My thoughts are not your thoughts… neither are your ways my ways”
(Isaiah 55:8)
Do you see that?
So what does this look like for you?
You might be expecting one kind of answer.
One kind of moment.
One kind of outcome.
But instead of forcing it into that shape… you stay open.
You trust Him… even when it looks different.
You stay with Him in the process… not just the result.
What would that look like in your situation right now?
Here’s what you can’t ignore
Jesus didn’t fail because it looked different.
He still opened what was closed.
Completely.
And the people said:
“He hath done all things well.”
Not just the outcome.
Everything about it.
So be honest.
Are you resisting the way it’s happening… or are you willing to trust Him even when it doesn’t look how you expected?
