Matthew 20:29–34 Explained: What If You Refuse To Stay Silent… No Matter Who Tries To Stop You?

You ever feel like you shouldn’t speak up?

Like you’re bothering God by asking again?

Or maybe people around you make it feel like you should just accept things as they are.

So you stay quiet.

But what if staying quiet is the very thing holding you back?

Let’s see what the Scripture actually says.

“And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.
And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?
They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.”
Matthew 20:29–34 (KJV)

They heard that Jesus passed by

It started with hearing.

They couldn’t see Him.

But they heard He was there.

And that was enough to respond.

Do you see that?

They didn’t wait for perfect clarity.

They acted on what they heard.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)

Hearing leads to movement.

So the quiet question is… what have you heard about Him that you haven’t acted on yet?

They cried out… Have mercy on us

They didn’t whisper.

They cried out.

Loud enough to be noticed.

Clear enough to be understood.

They knew what they needed.

And they said it.

Do you notice how direct that is?

No vague request. No hesitation.

Just… “have mercy on us.”

“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

Calling matters.

The multitude rebuked them

Here comes resistance.

Not from enemies.

From the crowd.

The same crowd following Jesus tried to silence them.

That’s real.

Sometimes the pressure to stay quiet comes from people who are already “around” Jesus.

“Hold your peace.”

Be quiet.

Don’t make a scene.

Have you ever felt that?

Like you should tone it down?

They cried the more

This is where everything turns.

They didn’t back off.

They got louder.

Not out of pride.

Out of desperation.

They refused to let the moment pass.

Do you see that?

Resistance didn’t shut them down.

It pushed them further.

“Men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1)

They didn’t faint.

Jesus stood still

That’s powerful.

Everything stopped.

Why?

Because of their cry.

Out of all the noise around Him… this got His attention.

Do you see what moved Him?

Not status. Not position.

Persistence.

Faith that wouldn’t be quiet.

What will ye that I shall do unto you?

He asked them directly.

Not because He didn’t know.

But because He wanted them to say it.

Clearly.

Specifically.

That matters.

Because sometimes you stay vague.

You hint at things.

You circle around the issue.

But here… they had to say it.

So the question is… are you clear about what you’re asking?

That our eyes may be opened

No confusion.

No hesitation.

They named it.

This is what we need.

That kind of clarity lines up with faith.

“Ask, and it shall be given you” (Matthew 7:7)

But asking requires knowing what you’re asking for.

Jesus had compassion… and touched their eyes

Again, you see His heart.

Compassion first.

Then action.

He touched them.

Personal.

Direct.

Not distant.

“Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.” (Psalm 103:13)

This isn’t cold or mechanical.

It’s personal.

Immediately their eyes received sight

No delay.

No process described.

Immediate.

That shows you something.

Once the moment came… it happened fully.

Do you see the pattern?

Persistence met compassion… and resulted in restoration.

They followed him

They didn’t just receive and leave.

They followed.

Healing led to relationship.

Not just a moment… but a direction.

That completes the picture.

What’s really happening here?

This isn’t just about two blind men.

It’s about a kind of faith that refuses to stay silent.

A kind of faith that keeps calling… even when others say stop.

A kind of faith that gets specific, stays persistent, and moves toward Jesus.

That’s what this reveals.

Let’s sit in this honestly

Because this hits something real.

You’ve asked before.

Maybe more than once.

And when nothing changed, you got quieter.

You pulled back.

You stopped expecting.

Is that where you’ve been?

Have you let resistance silence you?

What this is calling you into

This verse brings you back to something simple.

Call out again.

Not louder for show.

But real. honest. direct.

Refuse to let the moment pass.

Stay with it.

Because when Jesus stopped… everything changed.

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16)

That kind of prayer still matters.

So when it comes down to it…

Are you going to stay quiet because it’s uncomfortable… or are you willing to cry out again until He responds?

Call to Action: The Question That Demands an Answer

In Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do?

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
