You say you believe.
But when it gets personal, something hesitates.
Not out loud. Just underneath.
A quiet “what if not?”
Because believing in general is one thing.
Believing for this… right now… is different.
Let’s see what the Scripture actually says.
“And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.
And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.
Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.”
Matthew 9:27–31 (KJV)
“They Followed Him… Crying”
They didn’t stay still.
They followed.
Blind… but moving.
Calling out while they went.
“Have mercy on us.”
That’s persistence.
Not one attempt.
Not a quiet hope.
They kept going.
Do you see that?
They didn’t stop just because nothing happened immediately.
“When He Was Come Into The House”
This part is easy to miss.
Jesus didn’t stop them right away.
He kept walking.
They followed Him all the way inside.
Why?
Because their faith wasn’t just in asking.
It stayed through delay.
That’s not what you expect, is it?
We often think if it doesn’t happen quickly, something’s wrong.
But they kept coming.
“Believe Ye That I Am Able?”
Jesus asks a direct question.
Not about their need.
Not about their past.
About belief.
“Am I able?”
That’s where it focuses.
Because ability isn’t the issue on His side.
The question is… what do you believe about Him?
Do you see that?
“Yea, Lord”
Their answer is simple.
No explanation.
No hesitation.
Just agreement.
“Yes.”
That’s it.
They settled it.
Not after they saw.
Before.
“According To Your Faith”
This is where it lands.
Not according to the difficulty.
Not according to time.
According to your faith.
And then… their eyes were opened.
Immediate.
Clear.
Done.
That’s not what people expect, is it?
We’re used to gradual change.
But here it’s direct.
What Was Going On Here?
Jesus had just been moving through crowds.
Healing. Teaching.
And these two men lock onto Him.
They recognize Him as “Son of David.”
That’s a title of promise.
They weren’t just asking randomly.
They knew who they were calling on.
That context matters.
Because their faith was specific.
Not vague hope.
Scripture Builds On This
Hebrews 11:1 says,
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
They were blind.
But they had evidence internally.
Before their eyes opened.
James 1:6 says,
“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering…”
They didn’t waver.
They followed through.
So what made the difference?
They stayed with it.
The Internal Struggle You Might Feel
You might start strong.
You ask.
You believe.
But when there’s a delay… something shifts.
Doubt creeps in.
You start questioning.
“Did I do it right?”
“Is this for me?”
So instead of continuing… you pull back.
Is that what’s been happening?
Do you lose confidence when it doesn’t happen quickly?
What This Is Calling You Toward
This isn’t about forcing something.
It’s about staying.
Staying with what you believe about Him.
Even when there’s a gap.
Even when you don’t see change yet.
These men followed… all the way.
They didn’t stop at the first silence.
Galatians 6:9 says,
“Let us not be weary in well doing…”
That includes believing.
So what would it look like for you to stay with it… instead of backing off?
One Truth To Hold Onto
Jesus didn’t question their condition.
He questioned their belief.
And when they answered… He responded.
According to your faith.
So here’s the question that stays with you…
When He asks you the same thing… “Do you believe I am able?”… what’s your real answer?
