The Sermon on the Mount: Teachings from Heaven

The words of Matthew 5:4-10 present powerful truths about the character God desires in His people. How often do we experience mourning, meekness, and a hunger for righteousness, yet still feel distant from the promises attached to them?

These poems and beautiful song (followed by a more indepth look at the tpic) are a personal cry to the Lord, asking for His blessings in these areas to become real in our lives. As we reflect, let us ask ourselves: Are we truly aligning our hearts with God’s desires? Do we trust the Lord to fulfill these promises in His perfect time?

Poem 1: God’s Comfort in Mourning

We all face moments of deep sorrow, yet in those times, we can trust that God promises His comfort. This prayer asks for that comfort to be realized and for mourning to turn into the peace that only the Lord can provide.

Poem:
The Lord, You see the tears I’ve shed.
God, bring comfort to my weary head.
When mourning comes, You hold me tight.
The Lord will make my darkness bright.

God, let Your peace replace my pain.
The Lord will ease this heart’s great strain.
In grief, I know You are my guide.
God’s comfort here with me will abide.

Poem 2: The Inheritance of the Meek

Being meek is often misunderstood as weakness, but Jesus declared that the meek would inherit the earth. This prayer seeks God’s help in embracing meekness, trusting that the Lord’s way will lead to His promised inheritance.

Poem:
God, make me meek in all my ways.
The Lord will guide me through my days.
For meekness brings the promised land,
In God’s great power I will stand.

The Lord will help me to endure,
With God’s meek heart, I’ll stay secure.
The earth, You say, is my reward,
For trusting fully in the Lord.

Poem 3: Filling of Righteousness

There’s a deep longing for righteousness in every heart that seeks to follow God. This poem is a plea to the Lord, asking for the fulfillment of this hunger and thirst with His righteousness that satisfies.

Poem:
God, I thirst for Your righteousness.
The Lord will fill my heart’s deepness.
In hunger for what pleases You,
God’s goodness is what I pursue.

The Lord will satisfy my soul,
In God, I’ll find my life made whole.
To seek Your will, Lord, is my aim,
God’s righteousness, my highest claim.

The Beatitudes: Discovering Spiritual Poverty and True Goodness

Let’s talk about Jesus’ profound words in the Beatitudes. It starts with “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” The Beatitudes are blessings Jesus shared in the Sermon on the Mount. They show us how to find spiritual poverty and what true goodness is about.

True goodness isn’t about having a lot of things or being successful here on earth. It’s about having a humble and pure heart. When we understand that we need God’s help, we begin to see the true meaning of a rich life. This life is found by following God’s teachings.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:4-10

In the Beatitudes, Jesus shows us what brings true joy and goodness. Each blessing tells us how to live rightly. And shows how living by God’s rules can change our lives.

Looking into the Beatitudes teaches that knowing we need God is where real goodness starts. It’s realizing that only He can really love and guide us. This makes us humble and brings us closer to God. We find peace in His company.

Real goodness, as shown in the Beatitudes, isn’t just about what we do on the outside. It comes from having a gentle and kind heart. It’s wanting to do what’s right and to bring peace. When we do these things, we look more like God. And we get His special blessings.

The Beatitudes ask us to think again about what’s most important. They tell us to care more about the permanent kingdom of heaven than things here that don’t last. They inspire us to live by God’s values and to find happiness in being good and kind.

Blessed are the merciful: for they will be shown mercy.	Showcasing mercy and compassion invites God’s mercy into our lives.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they will see God.	A pure heart allows us to experience God’s presence.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they will be called children of God.	Seeking peace shows we are God’s children.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.	Staying true to God, even if others don’t like it, brings a big reward.

The Lord, You see the tears I’ve shed…

God brings comfort to the heart in mourning, offering solace to those who grieve. When tears fall, His peace provides relief and His light shines through the darkest days. Trust in God’s healing hand to mend your soul as you walk through loss.
