Mark 1:40–45 Explained: What If You’re Not Too Far Gone… Just Not Coming Close?

You ever feel like your situation has gone too far?

Like if God really saw all of it, He might step back instead of step in?

Or maybe you believe He can help… just not you.

Let’s see what the Scripture actually says.

“And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.”

(KJV)

He came anyway

This man was a leper.

That means rejected. Isolated. Pushed out.

People didn’t come near him.

And yet… he came to Jesus.

Not casually.

“Beseeching him… kneeling down…”

This wasn’t passive.

This was desperate, honest, direct.

Then he says something that reveals everything:

“If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.”

He didn’t question power.

He questioned willingness.

Have you ever felt that?

You know God can… but you’re not sure if He will for you.

Jesus answered the real question

“Jesus, moved with compassion…”

Before anything happens, you see His heart.

Not hesitation.

Not distance.

Compassion.

Then something happens that shouldn’t be ignored.

“He put forth his hand, and touched him…”

That wasn’t required.

He could have spoken from a distance.

But He chose to touch what everyone else avoided.

Do you see what that says?

Nothing about this man pushed Jesus away.

“I will; be thou clean.”

There it is.

Not maybe.

Not later.

“I will.”

That’s not what many expect, is it?

“And… immediately the leprosy departed…”

Again, no delay.

Complete change.

This moment wasn’t random

This wasn’t a special exception.

It lines up with everything else you see.

“He healeth all thy diseases”
(Psalm 103:3)

“Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses”
(Matthew 8:17)

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever”
(Hebrews 13:8)

So the question shifts.

If He is the same… then what’s actually stopping people now?

There’s something deeper going on inside

That man didn’t stay away because of his condition.

He pushed past it.

But a lot of people don’t.

Not because God changed.

But because something inside says stay back.

Maybe it’s shame.

Maybe it’s disappointment.

Maybe it’s that quiet thought… this won’t work for me.

Do you feel that tension?

Like you’re close enough to believe… but still holding back?

Look at his response

He didn’t clean himself up first.

He didn’t wait until things improved.

He came as he was.

And he asked.

That’s it.

No formula.

Just coming to Jesus with what was real.

Another place shows the same thing:

“Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out”
(John 6:37)

Notice that.

Coming is enough to start.

So what does this look like right now?

Not overcomplicating it.

Not trying to fix everything first.

Just coming to Him honestly.

That thing you’ve been keeping at a distance.

That condition. That struggle.

Bringing it to Him the way this man did.

Open. Direct. Personal.

What would it look like for you to actually do that?

Here’s what you can’t ignore

The leper thought the issue was willingness.

Jesus showed that wasn’t the problem.

“I will.”

That hasn’t changed.

So if something still feels blocked… it’s not on His side.

So be honest.

Are you waiting for Him to be willing… or are you hesitating to come?

Call to Action: The Question That Demands an Answer

In Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do?

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
