Brethren, the Word of God is no ordinary word. It is eternal. It is living. It is Jesus Himself revealed. From Genesis to Revelation, the Word is God’s voice, God’s power, God’s presence, and God’s promise. Ignore it, and you stumble in darkness. Embrace it, and you live in light. The question is: What place does the Word of God have in your life?
The Word Was with God, and Is God
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Not a creature. Not an echo. God Himself. And “the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). O my soul, that means Jesus Christ is the Word walking in human form!
Paul echoes this when he declares, “For by Him were all things created…and by Him all things consist” (Colossians 1:16–17). Nothing holds together without Him. And when the heavens open, John sees Him: “His name is called The Word of God” (Revelation 19:13). Friends, this is not a metaphor. This is the Son of God Himself.
The Word of Life Manifested
John says, “That which was from the beginning…the Word of life…we have seen it, and bear witness” (1 John 1:1–2). They didn’t handle an idea, but a Person! Jesus Himself declared, “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).
Where else can life be found? Paul urges the Philippians to “hold forth the word of life” (Philippians 2:16). Not hide it. Not hoard it. Hold it forth like a torch in the night.
The Word in Creation
Go back to the first page of your Bible: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). Creation itself is a sermon. “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made…for He spake, and it was done” (Psalm 33:6, 9).
The writer of Hebrews agrees: “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God” (Hebrews 11:3). Brethren, the universe is not built on chaos. It is built on the Word.
The Word as Revelation
The Psalmist testifies, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). You cannot walk safely without it. God says through Jeremiah, “Is not my word like as a fire…and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” (Jeremiah 23:29).
Fire burns. Hammer shatters. The Word confronts. And Isaiah reminds us, “So shall my word be…it shall not return unto me void” (Isaiah 55:11). Friends, if God has spoken, it will come to pass.
The Word as Judge
Here is a sobering truth: “The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword…and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). Nothing is hidden. Jesus warns, “The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:48).
On that great day, it will not be your excuses, but His Word that stands. And in Revelation, John sees Him: “Out of His mouth went a sharp twoedged sword” (Revelation 1:16). The Word that saves is also the Word that judges.
The Word in the Believer
What then must we do? “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16). Richly, not sparsely. “Take…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17). That is your only offensive weapon. “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
Without the Word, faith dies. James pleads, “Receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word” (James 1:21–22). Hearing is not enough. Obedience is the proof. And Peter declares, “Being born again…by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever” (1 Peter 1:23). That’s the new birth!
The Eternal Word
Friends, everything else fades. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35). The Psalmist cries, “Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89).
Isaiah thunders, “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8). Brethren, your life is like grass. Your possessions are like flowers. But the Word of God? It stands forever.
So I ask you today: Where does the Word stand in your life? Is it hidden in your heart, or gathering dust on a shelf? Is it a lamp to your path, or a stranger’s voice you rarely hear? One day, all flesh will fade, but the Word of God will remain. Cling to it. Believe it. Live it. For the Word is Christ, and to reject the Word is to reject Him.
O my soul, let us not delay. Today, let the Word of God dwell richly in you. For eternity is near, and His Word will stand when all else falls.
