Behold the Lamb! This is the cry of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation. From the first altar where Abel laid his lamb, to the throne of God where angels fall before the Lamb that was slain, the Bible tells one story.
It is the story of substitution, of sacrifice, of redemption, and of eternal glory. Friends, this is not a side note. This is the center of God’s plan. The Lamb is not just in the text, the Lamb is the text. And the question before us is this: what will you do with the Lamb?
Old Testament Foreshadowing
In Genesis 4:4, Abel brought the firstlings of his flock, a lamb, and God respected his offering. Why? Because God looks on the blood of an innocent substitute. Cain’s fruit of the ground could never atone. But Abel’s lamb pointed forward to the Lamb of God. Do you see? From the very beginning, salvation is not earned, it is given through blood.
In Genesis 22:7–8, Isaac asked, “Where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham answered with words that echo through the ages: “God will provide Himself a lamb.” That was not just a father calming his son. That was a prophecy. And on Calvary, God did provide Himself a Lamb.
Exodus 12:3–13 tells us of the Passover. Each household killed a lamb, its blood struck on the doorposts. And when the Lord passed through Egypt in judgment, the houses marked with blood were spared. The cry of Egypt was great, but the people under the blood were safe. Brethren, has your heart’s door been marked by the blood of the Lamb?
Day by day, morning and evening, the priest offered a lamb (Exodus 29:38–39). Why? Because sin never ceased and atonement must be continual. Yet those sacrifices could never take away sin. They were shadows.
In Leviticus 4:32–35, a sinner brought a lamb without blemish, laid his hand upon its head, and watched as its blood was shed. The guilt passed symbolically, the lamb died in the sinner’s place. Innocence for guilt. Life for death. Do you see how all of this points forward?
The prophets saw it. Isaiah 53:7 spoke of the Servant, led as a lamb to the slaughter, opening not His mouth. Silent, meek, yet bearing the weight of our transgressions. Jeremiah 11:19 described himself as a lamb led to slaughter, but his words only echoed the greater One to come, Christ Himself, who walked willingly into suffering without resistance.
New Testament Fulfillment
And then He came. John 1:29, 36 — John the Baptist saw Jesus and cried, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Not cover it for a season, not hold it back for a year, but take it away. Gone forever through His blood.
When the Ethiopian eunuch read Isaiah’s prophecy, he stumbled at the mystery. But Acts 8:32–35 tells us Philip opened the Scripture and preached unto him Jesus — the Lamb led to the slaughter. Friends, the gospel is not a system, it is a Savior. Not a ritual, but a Redeemer.
1 Corinthians 5:7 declares it plainly: “Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.” He is the Lamb whose blood delivers from wrath.
1 Peter 1:18–19 reminds us we are not redeemed with silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. Do you believe that? Nothing else can pay your ransom. Nothing else will suffice.
Look to heaven with John in Revelation 5:6 — a Lamb as it had been slain, standing in the midst of the throne. Slain, yet standing. Dead, yet alive. Sacrificed, yet victorious. And all heaven bursts into worship: Revelation 5:12 — “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.”
Then comes the multitude in Revelation 7:9–10, 14 — a countless throng clothed in white robes, washed in the blood of the Lamb. They cry with a loud voice, “Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.” Brethren, will you be in that number?
Revelation 12:11 says believers overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. Do you want victory over temptation, over fear, over the enemy? It will not be by your strength but by the blood of the Lamb.
From eternity, this was God’s plan. Revelation 13:8 calls Jesus “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Before sin entered, before Eden fell, the Lamb was appointed.
And soon there will be joy beyond imagining. Revelation 19:7 declares, “The marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.” The church, the bride, purified and prepared, united with her Bridegroom, the Lamb.
In eternity’s city, Revelation 21:22–23 tells us there is no temple, no need of the sun, for the Lamb is the temple and the Lamb is the light. And Revelation 22:1, 3 shows a river of life flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. No more curse. Only blessing, flowing forever.

Christ is both slain and reigning. He is meek in death, yet mighty in resurrection. He is the offering for sin and the light of eternity.
So I ask you, with all the urgency of heaven and the witness of Scripture: What will you do with the Lamb? Will you trust His blood? Will you bow before His throne? Will you follow wherever He leads?
Because one thing is certain: from Genesis to Revelation, the Lamb is central. And if the Lamb is central in heaven, the Lamb must be central in your heart.
