Brethren, behold your Savior: not a figure confined to time, not a teacher bound by the grave, but the Eternal, Living One. The Scriptures thunder this truth from Genesis to Revelation. The question is not whether Christ is eternal. The question is whether we see Him as such and surrender our fleeting lives into His everlasting hands.
Eternal
“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God” (Psalm 90:2). Friends, can you measure eternity? Can you trace its boundaries? No, for before creation itself breathed, He was. Christ is not an afterthought. He is the foundation of all existence.
Isaiah 9:6 calls Him “The everlasting Father.” Think of that! The child in the manger, the man walking the dusty streets of Galilee, is the Father of eternity. He is not a passing flame, but the unquenchable fire of endless being.
He Himself declared in Revelation 1:8, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending… the Almighty.” And again in Revelation 22:13, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” Do you hear the finality of His voice? He is the bookends of history, the One who was before all and who will remain when all else fades.
Daniel saw Him too: “His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed” (Daniel 7:14). Brethren, kingdoms rise, rulers fall, but Christ reigns on. Will you bow now or wait until every knee is forced to bend?
The Living One
Christ is not just eternal in essence. He is living in power. He declared to Martha, brokenhearted at her brother’s tomb, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25–26). What comfort! What authority! Death trembles when He speaks.
He proclaims in Revelation 1:18, “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore.” Friends, He entered the grave, but He did not stay. Acts 2:24 says God raised Him up, for “it was not possible that he should be holden of it.” Death had no chains strong enough to bind Him.
And what of us? “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept… For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:20–22). Do you feel the weight of that promise? In Him, death does not have the final word.
Peter exults: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). A lively hope! Not a cold theology. Not a fading dream. A hope that breathes.
Eternal Priesthood and Endless Life
But His work is not merely past. It continues, unceasing. “This man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:24–25). Did you hear it? He ever lives. Even now, in this moment, He prays for you.
Psalm 110:4 had foretold it: “Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.” Christ’s priesthood does not expire. He has no successor. He is the eternal mediator between God and man.
And what comfort flows from Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” O friends, when the world shifts and hearts falter, He remains unchanging.
Victory over Death
What, then, of death? Scripture shouts its defeat. “Our Saviour Jesus Christ… hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Timothy 1:10). Abolished death! Who else could claim such triumph?
Revelation 20:14 declares, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.” Even death itself will one day die. Its reign will end, consumed in eternal judgment.
And Paul taunts the grave with holy boldness: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:54–55). The sting is gone. The grave’s boast is silenced. Christ is risen, and because He lives, we live also.
The Call
So I ask you, brethren: will you cling to the dust of this fading world, or will you cling to the Eternal, Living One? He is from everlasting to everlasting. He is alive forevermore. He intercedes for you even now. He has abolished death. He alone offers victory.
O my soul, hear the Word of the Lord: Jesus Christ is not merely an idea, not merely a figure of history. He is the Eternal, Living One. He is Alpha and Omega. He is Resurrection and Life. He is Priest forevermore. He is Victor over death.
The choice lies before you. Will you bow in worship and trust Him? Or will you stand against the tide of eternity?
Friends, today is the day of decision. Choose life. Choose Christ. Choose the Eternal, Living One.
