Jesus Revealed as the All-Knowing One Who Searches Hearts

All-Knowing One Who Searches Hearts

Brethren, we serve no ordinary Savior. Jesus is not limited by sight or sound or circumstance – He is the Lord who knows all things. He sees beyond the surface, beyond the words, beyond the masks we wear before men. He searches the hidden places of the heart. And that truth ought to both humble us and draw us near in awe and repentance.

The All-Knowing God in the Old Testament

From the beginning, the Lord has made clear that His gaze pierces where man cannot look. When Samuel stood before Eliab, he was sure this tall, impressive man must be God’s choice for king. But God said, “Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). How often do we, too, judge by the visible, while God weighs what is invisible?

David told Solomon, “The Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts” (1 Chronicles 28:9). Think of that, friends—every hidden motive, every secret longing, every half-formed idea is open before God’s eyes. Psalm 44:21 reminds us, “Shall not God search this out? for He knoweth the secrets of the heart.” We may fool others with polite smiles and outward devotion, but God is not deceived.

David cried, “O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me… thou understandest my thought afar off” (Psalm 139:1–4). God doesn’t merely observe—He understands. He knows why you do what you do. He hears the thought before you speak the word. “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3). His awareness fills the heavens and the earth.

Jeremiah called Him “O Lord of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart” (Jeremiah 11:20). His justice is never mistaken because His knowledge is never partial. He doesn’t guess—He knows. Amos declared, “He… declareth unto man what is his thought” (Amos 4:13). Before a whisper crosses your lips, God already knows the reason behind it.

Jesus—The Same Lord Revealed in the Flesh

When Jesus walked among men, His knowledge proved His divinity. The scribes murmured in their hearts that He blasphemed, but “Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?” (Matthew 9:4). He read what was unspoken. Who but God can do that?

He said to the Pharisees, “Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts” (Luke 16:15). Men may applaud our appearance of holiness, but God looks deeper. What does He see in you today? Pride? Faith? Hypocrisy? Surrender?

The early church understood this truth. When choosing who would replace Judas, they prayed, “Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen” (Acts 1:24). They didn’t trust appearances; they sought the One who sees within. Later, Peter testified, “And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost” (Acts 15:8). God gave His Spirit not by outward merit but by inward faith.

Paul wrote, “He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit” (Romans 8:27). Even in prayer, when you cannot find words, the Spirit intercedes with groanings, and the Lord understands them perfectly. Nothing in your life is hidden—neither your pain, your doubts, nor your desires.

And when Paul warned the church, he reminded them that “the Lord… will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts” (1 Corinthians 4:5). Someday every motive will stand exposed before Him who searches all. That’s not a threat to the humble believer—it’s a call to walk honestly before God.

Finally, hear the voice of Jesus in Revelation: “I am He which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works” (Revelation 2:23). Does that sound familiar? It should—it echoes Jeremiah 17:10. The same God of Israel who searched hearts in the Old Testament now speaks in the person of Christ. The Lord who sat on heaven’s throne walked among men and still searches hearts today.

The Call to Examine Ourselves

Friends, the message is clear from Genesis to Revelation: God knows you completely. He sees your victories and your failures, your sincerity and your self-deception. There’s no mask thick enough to hide from His gaze. But here’s the miracle—He loves you still. The God who sees the worst in you also knows the best that He planted in you.

So what will you do with that knowledge? Will you resist His gaze, or will you invite Him, as David did, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts”? Let the One who knows you best cleanse you deepest. Let Him purify your motives, guide your choices, and shape your heart into truth.

For when Jesus searches your heart, it isn’t to condemn—it’s to transform. He exposes, that He might heal. He reveals, that He might redeem. He knows, that He might restore. He is the All-Knowing Christ—trust Him with your heart today.
