Bible Study: Jesus Revealed as The Almighty

The One who blesses Abraham is the same One crowned in Revelation—do you see it?

When we read the Bible, the name “Almighty” keeps showing up. In Hebrew it’s often El Shaddai, and in the New Testament, Jesus Himself claims it. This study will look at how the Almighty is revealed in four main places:

  1. In Revelation and the New Testament – where Jesus openly takes this title.
  2. In the Pentateuch and the Patriarchs – where the name shows up in God’s covenant dealings.
  3. In Poetry and Wisdom books – where the Almighty is praised, wrestled with, and trusted.
  4. In the Prophets – where the Almighty’s voice, judgment, and promises are declared.

At the end, we’ll tie these together and see how Jesus fulfills the Almighty’s name in every way. Keep asking yourself: Do you see Jesus revealed? Do you understand what Revelation is saying?

1. In Revelation and the New Testament

This is where things are made clear: Jesus doesn’t shy away from the title “the Almighty.”

  • Revelation 1:8 – “I am Alpha and Omega… the Almighty.” Here Jesus identifies Himself with God’s eternal, all-powerful name. No mistaking it.
  • Revelation 4:8 – Heaven declares Him holy, holy, holy, tying His almightiness to His eternal nature.
  • Revelation 11:17 – He actually takes up power, not just in theory.
  • Revelation 15:3 – His works prove His name. There’s no gap between title and action.
  • Revelation 16:7, 14 – The Almighty is true in judgment and mighty in battle. Mercy and justice both shine here.
  • Revelation 19:6, 15 – “The Lord God omnipotent reigneth.” Omnipotent praise, omnipotent justice.
  • Revelation 21:22 – The Lamb shares the Almighty’s place in the temple. Jesus and the Almighty are united.
  • 2 Corinthians 6:18 – “I will be a Father unto you… saith the Lord Almighty.” The Almighty isn’t distant; He brings us close.
  • Revelation 1:17–18; 22:13 – The same voice that says “I am Alpha and Omega” is the One who died and rose again. Almighty and risen.

Do you see it? Jesus is revealed as the eternal, almighty Lord, not just in name but in life, power, and resurrection authority.

2. In the Pentateuch and the Patriarchs

The title Almighty first shows up when God makes covenant promises.

  • Genesis 17:1 – To Abraham, “I am the Almighty God.” Every promise has power behind it.
  • Genesis 28:3; 35:11; 48:3 – Isaac and Jacob tie blessing, fruitfulness, and identity directly to the Almighty.
  • Genesis 43:14 – Jacob prays mercy from the Almighty. Power and compassion belong together.
  • Genesis 49:25 – Blessings overflow from the Almighty’s hand.
  • Exodus 6:3 – God explains that He revealed Himself as El Shaddai to the patriarchs. Each name unfolds His covenant.

See how Jesus is the fulfillment? The same Almighty who appeared to Abraham and Jacob is the One revealed in Revelation as the risen Lord.

3. In Poetry and Wisdom

In these books, the Almighty is not just talked about—He is wrestled with, trusted, and praised.

  • Ruth 1:20–21 – Naomi admits “the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.” Real faith still calls Him Almighty in pain.
  • Job 5:17; 6:4; 11:7; 22:17–26; 27:2; 33:4; 34:10–12 – Job and his friends keep pointing to the Almighty’s correction, mystery, life-giving Spirit, and holy power.
  • Psalm 68:14; 91:1 – The Almighty scatters kings and shelters His people. Power over enemies and nearness in protection.

Do you see Jesus here? The breath of the Almighty (Job 33:4) ties to the Spirit who gives life in Christ (Romans 8:11). The shelter of the Almighty (Psalm 91) is fulfilled in Jesus’ own call: “Come unto me and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

4. In the Prophets

The prophets connect the Almighty name to God’s voice, judgment, and promise of a coming ruler.

  • Isaiah 9:6 – The child is called The mighty God. Jesus carries the Almighty’s name.
  • Isaiah 13:6; Joel 1:15 – The day of the Lord’s judgment is destruction from the Almighty.
  • Ezekiel 1:24; 10:5 – His voice thunders like many waters.
  • Amos 4:13 – God’s creating and ruling power matches the Almighty title.

Now think about it: when John in Revelation hears Jesus’ voice like many waters (Rev. 1:15), do you see the connection? The voice of the Almighty is the voice of Jesus.

Old to New: Clear Connections

  • Alpha and Omega with Almighty – Revelation 1:8; 17–18; 22:13. The One who died and rose is the Almighty.
  • Father promise to sons and daughters – 2 Corinthians 6:18 shows the Almighty making us His family.
  • Temple presence – Exodus had God’s glory filling a tent; Revelation 21:22 says Jesus and the Almighty are the temple.
  • Breath of the Almighty – Job 33:4 connects to the Spirit’s life in Romans 8:11. Jesus gives resurrection hope.
  • Shelter of the Almighty – Psalm 91 pairs with Matthew 11:28. Jesus is the safe rest.

Do you see Jesus revealed? Do you see how every Old Testament picture lines up with what Revelation shows us about Him?

Why This Matters Right Now

If Jesus is truly the Almighty, then nothing sits above His word. Not rulers. Not culture. Not fear. He has all power, and He shares His life and peace with us.

So when you read “the Almighty” in Genesis, Job, Psalms, Isaiah, or Revelation—don’t just think of a distant power. Think of Jesus. See how revelation is showing us the One who was, and is, and is to come.

The Almighty is not just a title. It’s who Jesus is, and that changes everything.
