You Separate “Spiritual” Life From Physical Life… But Scripture Doesn’t
Let’s be honest.
Most people treat their body and their spiritual life like two different categories.
You pray. You read Scripture. That’s “spiritual.”
Then you eat whatever, neglect rest, ignore habits, and think it doesn’t really matter.
But Paul says something that challenges that completely.
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you… and ye are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19, KJV).
That changes everything.
Because now your body is not just yours.
It’s where God dwells.
The Temple Was Never Treated Casually
Think about what the temple meant in Scripture.
It wasn’t ordinary.
It was set apart.
Protected. Honored. Treated with intention.
People didn’t approach it casually.
They recognized what it represented.
God’s presence.
Now Paul says… that’s you.
That same level of awareness is meant to apply to your body.
Not out of pressure.
But out of understanding.
You Were Bought at a Price
Here’s where it becomes personal.
“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20, KJV).
Bought.
That means ownership changed.
Jesus didn’t just save your soul.
He redeemed your whole life.
That includes your body.
So the question is no longer, What do I feel like doing?
It becomes, What honors God in how I live?
Your Daily Choices Are Spiritual
This is where people disconnect.
They think only big decisions matter.
But Paul is pointing to something deeper.
Daily choices.
What you consume.
How you rest.
How you treat your body.
“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient” (1 Corinthians 6:12, KJV).
Just because something is allowed… doesn’t mean it’s helpful.
That requires discernment.
And honesty.
It’s Not About Perfection… It’s About Stewardship
Let’s clear something up.
This is not about having a perfect body.
It’s not about appearance.
It’s about stewardship.
Taking care of what God entrusted to you.
Because neglect is not neutral.
Over time, it affects your energy.
Your clarity.
Your ability to stay focused and present.
That matters in your walk with God.
Your Body Affects Your Spiritual Sensitivity
This is something people don’t talk about enough.
How you live physically can impact how you respond spiritually.
Fatigue.
Constant stress.
Lack of rest.
It dulls awareness.
That doesn’t make you less saved.
But it can make you less responsive.
“Be sober, be vigilant” (1 Peter 5:8, KJV).
That includes your whole life.
Self-Control Is a Spiritual Issue
Taking care of your body is not just discipline.
It’s spiritual.
“The fruit of the Spirit is… temperance” (Galatians 5:22–23, KJV).
Temperance means self-control.
That shows up in what you eat.
How you rest.
What you allow.
So this isn’t about willpower alone.
It’s about the Spirit working in you.
Pentecost: A Body Filled With the Spirit
Now connect this.
At Pentecost, something happened.
“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:4, KJV).
Where did the Spirit dwell?
In them.
That means their bodies became the place where God’s presence lived and moved.
That’s still true.
Your body is not just physical.
It’s a vessel.
And what you do with it matters.
Worship Is Not Just Singing
We often think of worship as music.
But Scripture expands it.
“I beseech you… that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1, KJV).
Present your body.
That’s worship.
How you live.
How you care for yourself.
How you use your energy.
All of that becomes an offering.
What This Looks Like Practically
This doesn’t have to be complicated.
Start small.
Be mindful
Pay attention to habits that are draining you.
Make better choices
Not perfect. Just better.
Rest intentionally
Your body needs it.
Ask God for help
This is not just physical effort. It’s spiritual alignment.
Over time, these choices add up.
The Real Shift
This is what changes everything.
You stop asking, What can I get away with?
And start asking, What honors God?
That’s a different mindset.
Because now your life is not divided.
It’s integrated.
Spiritual and physical… working together.
Final Question
If your body is where God dwells…
How are you treating it?
Not with pressure.
Not with guilt.
But with awareness.
Because when that truth becomes real… even your smallest choices start to carry meaning.
Call to Action: The Question That Demands an AnswerIn Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do? And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Do you understand this?
