Let’s be honest.
A lot of people want power.
They want boldness. They want authority. They want to see God move in real ways. And there’s nothing wrong with that. The Bible is full of it. Lives changed, bodies healed, demons cast out, truth spoken with confidence.
But here’s the part that often gets pushed to the side.
The same Spirit who brings power is the Spirit who works purity.
And if you try to separate those two, things start to get off track fast.
So the real question is not just, do you want power?
It’s this.
Are you ready for both?
Because the Spirit doesn’t divide His work like we sometimes do. He doesn’t say, I’ll give you boldness, but you can keep that hidden compromise. He doesn’t empower you publicly while ignoring what’s happening privately.
He works both at the same time.
And that changes how we approach everything.
The Spirit Who Empowers
Let’s start with what people usually focus on.
The Spirit brings power.
You see it all through Scripture. Ordinary people become bold. Fear gives way to courage. Words carry weight. Lives are impacted.
It’s not personality. It’s not natural ability. It’s not something you can manufacture.
It’s the Spirit working through a yielded life.
And when that power is flowing, it’s clear.
There’s conviction when truth is spoken.
There’s authority in what’s said.
There’s impact beyond what human effort could produce.
This is what many people are drawn to.
And rightly so.
Because when God moves, it’s real.
The Spirit Who Purifies
But here’s where things get real.
The same Spirit who empowers also confronts.
Not to condemn, but to clean.
He deals with the inside.
Thoughts.
Motives.
Hidden attitudes.
Things no one else sees.
And if you’ve walked with God for any length of time, you know this part doesn’t always feel comfortable.
There are moments when the Spirit puts His finger on something and you already know what it is before you even try to explain it.
That quiet conviction.
That inner check.
That sense that something needs to change.
That’s not rejection.
That’s refinement.
Why These Two Always Go Together
You can’t separate power and purity.
Here’s why.
Power without purity becomes dangerous.
It can look impressive on the outside while something unhealthy is growing underneath.
And eventually, what’s hidden starts to affect what’s visible.
But purity without power can become passive.
It turns into a focus on personal effort without the strength that comes from the Spirit’s enabling.
God never intended for you to choose one or the other.
He designed both to work together.
Power flowing through a life that is being purified.
Purity being strengthened by the power of the Spirit.
That’s the balance.
The Tension Most People Feel
This is where a lot of people get stuck.
Because they feel the pull in both directions.
They want to be used by God.
But they also feel the weight of their own struggles.
They want boldness.
But they’re aware of areas that still need work.
So they hesitate.
They pull back.
They think, maybe once I get everything right, then I’ll step forward.
But here’s the truth.
The Spirit works in the middle of that tension.
Not after you’ve perfected everything.
Right there, where you’re aware of your need.
He empowers you while He’s purifying you.
Not instead of it.
Yielding Instead of Performing
This is where the shift happens.
If you think this is about performing, you’ll either burn out or hold back.
Because you’ll always feel like you’re not ready enough.
But the Spirit is not looking for performance.
He’s looking for yielding.
A heart that says, God, I’m available.
Not perfect.
Available.
Willing to be used.
Willing to be corrected.
Willing to respond when He nudges.
That’s where both power and purity begin to flow.
The Quiet Work No One Sees
Let’s talk about the part that doesn’t get posted or talked about much.
The private work.
The moments where the Spirit deals with you when no one else is around.
The decisions you make when there’s no pressure from outside.
The thoughts you choose to align.
The attitudes you surrender.
This is where purity is formed.
And here’s the connection.
What happens in private affects what happens in public.
The more you respond to the Spirit in those hidden moments, the clearer the flow becomes when you step out.
It’s not about earning power.
It’s about removing what blocks it.
When the Spirit Checks You
You’ve probably felt this.
You’re about to say something, and there’s a check inside.
You’re about to respond a certain way, and something pulls you back.
You’re entertaining a thought, and it doesn’t sit right.
That’s the Spirit working purity.
And here’s where it matters.
What you do in that moment shapes your sensitivity.
If you ignore it, things start to dull.
If you respond, things become clearer.
This isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about being responsive.
Boldness That Comes From a Clean Heart
There’s a kind of boldness that comes when your heart is clear before God.
Not because you’ve never missed it, but because you’re not hiding anything.
You’re walking openly.
You’re responding quickly when the Spirit corrects you.
You’re not carrying things you know need to be dealt with.
And that produces confidence.
Not in yourself.
But in your relationship with God.
That’s the kind of boldness the Spirit produces.
Not forced.
Not loud for the sake of it.
Real.
The Ongoing Work
Here’s something freeing.
This is not a one-time process.
Power and purity are ongoing.
The Spirit continues to empower.
The Spirit continues to refine.
You don’t arrive at a place where you no longer need either.
And that’s not a weakness.
That’s dependence.
You stay connected.
You stay responsive.
You stay open to both the empowering and the correcting work of the Spirit.
Living in Both Power and Purity
So what does this look like day to day?
It looks like staying yielded.
You step out when the Spirit leads.
You speak when He prompts.
You act when He nudges.
And at the same time, you stay sensitive.
You allow Him to deal with your heart.
You don’t ignore conviction.
You don’t push aside the inner checks.
You walk with Him, not just in what He does through you, but in what He does in you.
And when those two stay together, something powerful happens.
Your life becomes consistent.
Not perfect.
But aligned.
And that’s where the Spirit’s work becomes clear.
Not just in moments of power.
But in a life that reflects Him.
Both outwardly and inwardly.
That’s the Spirit’s twin work.
And when you embrace both, you don’t just experience God moving through you.
You experience Him changing you at the same time.
