Jesus Cast Out Devils by the Spirit of God

Jesus Cast Out Devils by the Spirit of God

Let me say something that cuts through a lot of assumptions.

Jesus did not operate independently from the Spirit of God.

We talk about His authority, His power, His miracles. And rightly so. But when you slow down and actually read what He said about Himself, something important shows up.

He made it clear that what He did, He did by the Spirit.

And that changes how you see everything.

Because if Jesus, walking in perfect obedience, chose to operate by the Spirit of God… what does that say about how we’re meant to live?

Let’s walk through this carefully, because this is not just about casting out devils. This is about understanding how the Kingdom of God actually moves.

What Jesus Said About His Power

In the book of Matthew, Jesus made a direct statement:

“If I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.”

That’s not vague. That’s not symbolic language.

That’s clear.

The casting out of devils was not just an act of power. It was evidence of the Kingdom breaking into real life.

And notice what He didn’t say.

He didn’t say, “I do this because I am strong.”

He pointed to the Spirit of God.

That means the source matters.

It wasn’t random. It wasn’t emotional. It wasn’t just authority in words.

It was the Spirit working through Him.

The Accusation That Revealed the Truth

Now here’s where it gets intense.

Some religious leaders saw what Jesus was doing and didn’t deny the results. They couldn’t. People were being set free.

But instead of recognizing the Spirit of God, they tried to explain it away.

They said He was casting out devils by another power.

And that’s when Jesus drew a line.

He showed how foolish that idea was. A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. If Satan is casting out Satan, his kingdom collapses.

But then He brought it back to the real point.

This is the Spirit of God at work.

And if that’s true, then something bigger is happening than people realize.

The Kingdom is here.

Deliverance Was Not a Side Ministry

Sometimes people treat deliverance like a small part of what Jesus did.

But when you read the Gospels, it shows up again and again.

In the book of Mark, people were brought to Him who were oppressed, and He cast out many devils.

In the book of Luke, unclean spirits cried out and came out of people.

This wasn’t rare.

This was normal.

Why?

Because wherever the Kingdom of God shows up, darkness has to leave.

You don’t negotiate with darkness when the Spirit of God is present.

It gets exposed. It gets confronted. It gets removed.

That’s what we see in the life of Jesus.

The Spirit and Authority Work Together

Here’s something important.

Jesus didn’t just have authority in title. He walked in authority through the Spirit.

That means His words carried weight because the Spirit backed them.

When He said, “Come out,” it wasn’t just sound. It was power.

And this is where many people miss it today.

They try to speak without being led.

They try to command without being filled.

But authority in the Kingdom is not just about what you say. It’s about what is behind what you say.

Jesus lived in constant connection with the Father, through the Spirit.

That’s where the authority flowed from.

The Kingdom of God Confronts What Binds People

Let’s bring this into real life.

When Jesus cast out devils, He wasn’t putting on a display.

He was setting people free.

People who were tormented.

People who were bound.

People who had lost control, clarity, or peace.

And when the Spirit of God moved, those chains broke.

That’s what the Kingdom does.

It doesn’t just inspire. It liberates.

It doesn’t just comfort. It confronts what is holding someone captive.

And that’s still needed today.

Because people are still dealing with things they can’t fix on their own.

Why This Still Matters for the Church

Here’s where this becomes personal.

If Jesus operated by the Spirit of God, and He told His followers to receive power from on high… then this is not just history.

This is a pattern.

The same Spirit that empowered Jesus is the same Spirit given to believers.

Not as a concept.

Not as a label.

But as a living reality.

And that means the Church is not meant to operate powerless.

We’re not called to explain darkness. We’re called to confront it.

But that only happens when we walk in the same source Jesus walked in.

The Danger of Replacing the Spirit with Structure

Let’s be real for a second.

It’s possible to build a version of church life that avoids anything uncomfortable.

Keep it neat. Keep it controlled. Keep it predictable.

But the Spirit of God doesn’t always fit inside neat boxes.

And when we replace His work with structure alone, something gets lost.

You can have form without freedom.

You can have activity without authority.

You can have words without power.

And deep down, people feel the difference.

Because real freedom cannot be manufactured.

It has to come from God.

The Role of the Holy Spirit Today

The Spirit of God is not just about dramatic moments.

He works in ways that are both visible and personal.

He reveals truth.

He exposes what needs to change.

He strengthens you from the inside.

And yes, He empowers you to stand against darkness.

That might not always look like what people expect.

But the result is the same.

Freedom.

Clarity.

Peace.

Strength.

That’s what happens when the Spirit is at work.

It Starts with Alignment, Not Imitation

Here’s something that needs to be clear.

You don’t copy what Jesus did by trying to repeat actions.

You follow Him by aligning with the same Spirit.

This is not about trying to recreate moments.

It’s about walking in relationship.

Jesus didn’t move randomly. He moved in step with the Father.

And that’s the invitation.

To live in a way where you are sensitive, led, and responsive to the Spirit of God.

That’s where real authority comes from.

Why Some Avoid This Topic

Let’s be honest.

This area makes people uncomfortable.

Some ignore it completely.

Others overcomplicate it.

But often, the root issue is control.

It’s easier to stay in what you can manage than step into what requires dependence on God.

But when you read the Gospels, you can’t avoid it.

Jesus dealt with real oppression.

And He didn’t ignore it.

He addressed it with the power of the Spirit.

The Same Spirit, The Same Mission

The mission has not changed.

People still need freedom.

Truth still needs to be spoken.

Lives still need to be restored.

And the same Spirit is still available.

This is not about hype.

This is not about chasing experiences.

This is about walking in what God has already made available.

Steadily. Humbly. Consistently.

Final Thought: Don’t Reduce What Jesus Revealed

It’s easy to read these moments and keep them at a distance.

To say, “That was then.”

But Jesus didn’t present it that way.

He showed what the Kingdom looks like when the Spirit of God is active.

And then He called His followers to continue in that same flow.

So don’t reduce this to a story.

Don’t explain it away.

Let it challenge how you see your walk with God.

Because if Jesus cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the real question becomes this:

Are we relying on the same source?

Because that’s where the difference is made.

Not in effort.

Not in volume.

But in the Spirit of God at work within you.

Call to Action: The Question That Demands an Answer

In Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do?

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
