It is possible to receive something real from God… and then slowly stop using it.
Not because it was not genuine.
Not because it disappeared.
But because it was neglected.
And if you are honest, you have probably felt that before.
A moment where things were clear, alive, active… and then over time, it felt quieter. Less frequent. Less natural.
So the question is not just, “Did I receive?”
The question is, “Am I continuing?”
Because what God gives is meant to remain active, not sit unused.
It Was Given to Be Used
When the Spirit gives utterance, it is not for a one-time moment.
It is not just proof that something happened.
It is something you can continue in.
Scripture shows believers speaking in tongues, but it also shows the ongoing life of the Spirit, not just the initial experience.
That means this is not about a single event.
It is about a relationship that continues.
And like any relationship, what you engage with grows.
What you ignore fades in your awareness.
Why It Can Feel Like It Fades
Let’s be real.
The Spirit has not left.
But your attention can shift.
Life gets busy.
Distractions increase.
You rely more on your natural thinking and less on what God has given you.
And over time, something that once felt easy starts to feel distant.
Not because it is gone.
But because it has not been exercised.
Just like anything in your life, what you practice becomes natural.
What you neglect feels unfamiliar.
Stirring Up What Was Given
Scripture talks about stirring up the gift.
That tells you something.
You have a role.
God gives.
You respond.
Keeping your spiritual language alive is not about waiting for another moment to happen.
It is about engaging with what you already received.
You do not need to start from zero.
You need to return to what is already there.
Consistency Over Intensity
Here is where people get it wrong.
They wait for a strong feeling.
A perfect moment.
An emotional high.
But that is not how growth works.
Consistency matters more than intensity.
You can pray in the Spirit in quiet moments.
Short moments.
Simple moments.
It does not have to be dramatic.
It just has to be real.
And over time, consistency builds strength.
Removing the Overthinking
One of the biggest obstacles is overthinking.
“Is this still real?”
“Am I doing it right?”
“What if I’m just repeating myself?”
Those thoughts can shut everything down.
But remember how it started.
The Spirit gave the utterance.
You responded.
That has not changed.
You do not need to analyze it every time.
You need to trust what God has already done.
Creating Space for It
If you never make space, it will always feel distant.
Not because it is unavailable.
But because your life is too crowded to engage with it.
You do not need hours.
You need intention.
Moments where you step away from noise.
Moments where you focus.
Moments where you allow yourself to respond to the Spirit without distraction.
That is where it begins to feel alive again.
The Connection With Your Daily Walk
This is not separate from your life.
It is meant to be part of it.
Praying in the Spirit builds you up.
It aligns you.
It strengthens your inner man.
So it is not just something you do in a specific setting.
It becomes part of how you walk with God daily.
That is when it stops feeling occasional and starts feeling natural.
Guarding Against Neglect
You do not lose what God has given.
But you can neglect it.
You can ignore it long enough that it feels unfamiliar.
That is why Scripture warns about quenching the Spirit.
Not because He disappears.
But because your response can shut down what He is trying to do.
Staying aware keeps that from happening.
It Grows With Use
The more you engage, the more natural it becomes.
The more you respond, the easier it flows.
What felt hesitant at first becomes steady.
What felt unfamiliar becomes normal.
That is how growth works.
Not overnight.
But over time.
When It Feels Dry
There will be moments where it feels like nothing is happening.
Where it feels repetitive.
Where it feels quiet.
Do not let that stop you.
Growth is not always noticeable in the moment.
But something is still happening.
Stay consistent.
Stay engaged.
And over time, you will notice the difference.
Closing Thought
God did not give you something fragile.
He gave you something that can remain active in your life.
But you have a part to play.
Not to create it.
But to continue in it.
So if it feels like it has gone quiet, do not assume it is gone.
Come back to something simple.
Start again.
Respond again.
Because what God has given is still there.
And when you engage with it, it comes alive again.
