You’re praying.
You’re asking God for help.
For direction. For answers.
But if you’re honest… it feels like nothing is getting through.
So now you start wondering…
Is God not listening?
Or is there something on your side that’s getting in the way?
This verse says something that’s hard to ignore.
And if you read it too quickly… you might misunderstand it completely.
So what is it actually saying?
Let’s see what the Scripture actually says.
READ THE VERSE (KJV)
“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:”
Psalm 66:18 (KJV)
SECTION: WHAT DOES “REGARD INIQUITY” MEAN?
This doesn’t mean you’ve made a mistake.
It means you’re holding onto something… and choosing not to let it go.
“Regard” means to keep, to hold, to look at something with approval.
So this isn’t about slipping up.
It’s about knowing something is wrong… and keeping it anyway.
Think about it like this.
If you know something is damaging a relationship… but you keep doing it…
that relationship starts to feel distant.
Not because the other person disappeared.
But because something is in the way.
The Bible says:
“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
Proverbs 28:13 (KJV)
Not just confessing.
Forsaking.
So let me ask you.
Is there something you know is wrong… that you’re choosing to keep?
SECTION: WHAT IS REALLY BEING SAID HERE?
This verse isn’t saying God refuses to hear imperfect people.
If that were true… no one would be heard.
It’s talking about a divided heart.
Wanting God’s help… while holding onto something that pulls you away from Him.
And that creates a disconnect.
Because prayer isn’t just speaking.
It’s relationship.
The Bible says:
“Your iniquities have separated between you and your God…”
Isaiah 59:2 (KJV)
Not distance in location.
Distance in connection.
So the real question is…
Are you asking God for help… while resisting what He’s already shown you?
SECTION: CONTEXT CHANGES EVERYTHING
Psalm 66 is actually a testimony.
The writer is talking about how God has heard and answered.
A few verses later, he says:
“But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.”
Psalm 66:19 (KJV)
So this verse isn’t meant to discourage you.
It’s meant to show you what removes the blockage.
It’s not about God being unwilling.
It’s about clearing what’s in the way.
SECTION: THE CONNECTION MOST PEOPLE MISS
This connects directly to the New Testament.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us…”
1 John 1:9 (KJV)
That’s the solution.
Not hiding.
Not holding on.
Confessing.
Letting it go.
That restores the connection.
SECTION: WHERE THIS SHOWS UP IN REAL LIFE (BIBLE STORIES)
Look at Saul for a second.
God gave him clear instruction.
But he chose to partially obey.
He kept what he wanted.
And then tried to act like everything was fine.
“Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord?”
1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV)
He was still doing religious things.
But his heart wasn’t aligned.
And it affected everything.
So ask yourself.
Are you trying to pray through something… instead of dealing with it?
Look at David.
He also sinned.
But here’s the difference.
When he was confronted… he didn’t hold onto it.
“I acknowledged my sin unto thee… and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.”
Psalm 32:5 (KJV)
He let it go.
And the connection was restored.
So here’s the question.
Are you holding onto something… or bringing it into the light?
SECTION: LET’S BE HONEST
This is where it gets uncomfortable.
Because it’s easier to ignore things than deal with them.
You know it’s there.
But you push it aside.
Keep going.
Keep praying.
Hoping it won’t matter.
But it does.
Not because God is trying to shut you out.
But because you’re holding onto something that creates distance.
The Bible says:
“Let the wicked forsake his way… and he will have mercy upon him.”
Isaiah 55:7 (KJV)
There’s always mercy.
But it requires letting go.
SECTION: WHAT ACTUALLY CHANGES WHEN YOU LIVE THIS
This verse shifts you from trying to pray through hidden issues…
to dealing with them honestly so your connection with God is clear again.
Before this… prayer can feel blocked.
Frustrating.
Like nothing is moving.
After this… things open up.
Not because you became perfect.
But because you became honest.
You stopped holding on.
You brought it into the light.
And that changes your confidence.
Your clarity.
Your connection.
The Bible says:
“Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.”
1 John 3:21 (KJV)
Confidence.
That’s what returns.
OUTRO (NO PRAYER)
This verse isn’t here to push you away.
It’s here to show you what might be in the way.
Not mistakes.
Not struggles.
But what you’re choosing to hold onto.
So don’t ignore it.
Don’t push it down.
Bring it to God.
Let it go.
And watch what changes when nothing is standing in the way anymore.
