The Holy Spirit Sheds Abroad the Love of God

The Holy Spirit Sheds Abroad the Love of God

The Love That Heaven Pours, Not Man Produces

Brethren, hear this truth that shakes the soul: the love of God is not learned, it is poured. Romans 5:5 declares, “The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” God doesn’t send love as a message; He sends it as a miracle. It is not a theory, it is an experience.

The Spirit takes the cold chambers of the human heart and turns them into a living sanctuary of divine affection. Who among us can love as Christ loved without that power from above? None. For human effort can imitate, but only the Spirit can originate.

The Fruit That Proves the Tree

Galatians 5:22 says, “The fruit of the Spirit is love.” This isn’t a fruit you grow by straining; it’s the natural outcome of being rooted in the Spirit. When a tree abides in good soil, fruit happens. When a believer abides in God, love happens. Try to produce love without the Spirit, and it will wilt under pressure. But live in step with Him, and love becomes the aroma of your life, sweet and unmistakable.

Born of God, Known by Love

“Love is of God,” 1 John 4:7–8 tells us. Every soul that truly loves has been born of God and knows God. It’s not merely an emotion; it’s evidence. The Spirit reveals the family resemblance – children of the Father who love like the Father. Friends, where there is no love, there is no knowing of God. Could there be a clearer test of spiritual life?

The Great Measure of All Things

Paul thundered in 1 Corinthians 13, “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am nothing.” The Spirit reminds us that gifts without love are noise without melody, power without purpose, knowledge without compassion.

Love is the eternal measure. Prophecies shall fail, tongues shall cease, knowledge shall vanish – but love never fails. Do we prize what will pass away, or what will endure forever?

Rooted Deep, Filled Full

In Ephesians 3:17–19, Paul prayed that we would be “rooted and grounded in love… filled with all the fulness of God.” O my soul, do you see it? The Spirit doesn’t just sprinkle love on the surface – He drives our roots down deep into it. Like a tree drinking from underground rivers, our stability and fullness come from unseen communion with God’s heart.

Love: The Bond That Holds

Colossians 3:14 proclaims, “Above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” The Spirit binds together what pride would tear apart. He knits believers in unity, stitching hearts with threads of grace. Without love, the church frays and falls apart. With it, even the weak are held strong.

Love with a Pure Heart, Fervently

Peter calls us in 1 Peter 1:22 to “love one another with a pure heart fervently.” This isn’t lukewarm affection or polite tolerance. The Spirit purifies motives so love burns with holy fire. Hypocrisy cannot live in that flame. Oh, friends, does your love glow with sincerity or flicker with selfishness?

As He Loved, So Must We

Christ commanded in John 13:34–35, “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you.” The Spirit enables what the flesh cannot do. This is not ordinary affection – it’s Calvary-shaped, nail-pierced love. The world will know we belong to Jesus when we love like Him, not just when we say we do.

Growing Love That Multiplies

1 Thessalonians 3:12 declares, “The Lord make you to increase and abound in love.” True love is never stagnant. The Spirit expands it, stretches it, multiplies it. Like a river swelling in flood season, the love of God overflows every boundary we build. Are you growing in love, or guarding it like a limited supply?

Stay in the Warmth of His Love

Jude 21 pleads, “Keep yourselves in the love of God.” Stay close to the fire, brethren. The Spirit keeps our hearts from growing cold. Step away, and the chill of this world will numb you. Stay near, and even in hardship, warmth remains. Keep close to the Spirit, and you’ll never run out of love to give.

The Spirit Who Teaches Love

John 14:26–27 says the Comforter teaches us and reminds us of Christ’s words – words soaked in love and peace. The Spirit whispers, “Remember what Jesus said,” when hatred tempts and peace fades. Romans 8:15–16 confirms it: “Ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” That cry is love awakened – the assurance that we are sons and daughters of the living God.

And 2 Corinthians 13:14 blesses us with “the communion of the Holy Ghost.” Love and fellowship flow from that same divine source. Where the Spirit is, there is holy connection; where He is quenched, isolation reigns.

Love Proven by the Cross

1 John 3:16–18 says, “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us.” The Spirit doesn’t let that truth remain distant; He presses it into our hearts until we live it. Love is not talk – it’s a life laid down. When the Spirit fills a believer, generosity replaces greed, compassion replaces convenience.

John 15:9–12 echoes this call: “Continue ye in my love.” Abiding love isn’t seasonal – it’s sustained by the Spirit. Romans 8:35–39 assures us that nothing – neither death, life, angels, or powers – can separate us from the love of God in Christ. The Spirit makes that truth not only known but felt, even in the storm.

Love as the Spirit’s Mark

1 John 4:12–13 says, “If we love one another, God dwelleth in us… because he hath given us of his Spirit.” Love is the evidence of divine indwelling. Fear can’t produce it. Pride can’t fake it. Only the Holy Spirit can fill a vessel so completely that love spills over.

That’s why 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” The Spirit casts out fear and replaces it with fearless affection. Philippians 2:1–2 calls it “the comfort of love, the fellowship of the Spirit.” When believers walk in step with Him, hearts harmonize in unity.

Finally, Paul pleads in Romans 15:30, “I beseech you… for the love of the Spirit.” It’s a sacred partnership – the Holy Ghost Himself stirring love between believers and toward God.

Final Call: Let the Love Flow

Friends, do you feel it? The Spirit still sheds abroad the love of God. He still softens hearts, restores relationships, forgives the unforgivable, and reaches the unreachable. Don’t quench that fire. Don’t resist that warmth. Yield to the Spirit of love, and your life will bear the fragrance of heaven itself. For when the Holy Ghost fills a person, love reigns where self once ruled.

Call to Action: The Question That Demands an Answer

In Acts 2:37 Peter and the Apostles were asked the question – What Shall We do?

And in Acts 2:38 Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Do you understand this? After hearing the gospel and believing, they asked what should would do. The answer hasn’t changed friend, Peter clearly gave the answer. The question for you today is, Have you receieved the Holy Spirit Since you believed?
