Discover The Power Of Scriptural Thinking!
| Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God |
First of all we should note this scripture is written to the Church. It is written to those people who have already been born again…
| 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new |
So despite the born again experience of burying our old life in the waters of baptism, of crucifying the old man, of dying to sin and having received the Holy Spirit whereby we have put on the new man, the new life, where all things have become new we are still exhorted to renew our minds.
It is something we have to continually work on throughout our walk with the Lord.
As in the below scripture we are constantly encouraged to put off the old man and put on the new man. Despite our amazing new birth experience we need to take action continually as in put off… put on… we need to be renewed in the spirit of our minds.
| Ephesians 4:21-24 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. |
So let’s look again at renewing our minds…
| Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. |
- Transform: to change into another form, to transform, to transfigure
- Renewing: a renewal, renovation, complete change for the better
- Minds: The mind, comprising alike the faculties of perceiving and understanding and those of feeling, judging, determining, thoughts, desires, purposes.
- Conform: to conform one’s self (i.e. one’s mind and character) to another’s pattern, (fashion one’s self according to)
We are not to be like the characters of this world but we are to change into another form by the renewing / renovation / complete change for the better of our minds.
Therefore all of our thoughts, desires, feelings, judgements, purposes and our understanding are to be completely changed to align with the word of God.
Therefore discover the power of scriptural thinking.
The simple fact is that no matter who we are or what backgrounds we come from we all have corrupted minds.
Our brain is a marvellous thing. Better then any computer the world has to offer however just like computers that can do amazing and complex things our brain is only as good as the information programmed into it.
We all have had our thinking programmed by the people we have associated with and the events that we have experienced. As loving as our parents, our peers, teachers and others may have been what they have told us, and what we now believe may not be correct.
We all have had our thinking influenced via a multitude of sources from those mentioned above, to media, work colleagues, people in authority, books, magazines and the list could go on and on.
So it doesn’t matter how firmly we may believe something we still may be wrong. In fact the Bible says…
| Romans 8:6-7For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. |
- ENMITY = enemy, hatred, ill will
Natural thinking is an enemy against God. The natural mind hates the things of God. The natural mind IS NOT subject to the law of God. Neither can it be!
In other words our natural minds CAN NOT obey God! To be subject to is to obey.
So our minds have to be changed / renewed before we can obey God.
If Our Thinking Doesn’t Agree With The Scriptures Then OUR Thinking Is Wrong!
| Romans 3:4
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. |
Train Your Mind
If we want to truly renew our minds then we need to train our thinking. Faith (belief/obedience/saying yes to God) comes by hearing the word.
We do indeed reap what we sow therefore it should be painfully obvious that if we want to think scripturally then we need to thoroughly sow the word of God into our life’s.
Read the word and listen to talks. Attending meetings and talking with others about the word helps.
Successful people hang around other successful people; positive people hang around other positive people. It is important that we hang around like-minded people so fellowship is vitally important.
Praying and meditating should both be a high priority for renewing our minds.
But to finish the introduction I encourage you to have a purpose. If it is healing you desire then read, extract, print out, pray over, meditate upon, talk about healing scriptures over and over again until you are thinking scriptural about healing.
It is the same for any other matter: things like faith, love, forgiveness, evangelism, and so on. Study them, live them and let them become apart of you.
Truly discover the power of scriptural thinking.
