The Bible says that there is nothing new under the sun and I find it very encouraging to read quotes from past Christians. When you read what they have to say you quickly realize that they faced exactly the same problems we do today and one the greatest tools God has equipped us with is the ability to pray.

Jesus warned against repetitious prayer. Andrew Murray once said, Some people pray just to pray and some people pray to know God. Another fellow once said that there is a huge difference between saying prayers and praying.

Famous people like John Wesley and Martin Luther both made comments about being so busy and having so much to do that they couldn’t do it without praying for several hours before hand.

Ed Cole once said that wishing is no substitute for prayer. Think about how true this is. Many of us want to change and wish it to be so however very few actually beseech the Lord continually in prayer to bring it to pass.
There are so many wonderful quotes about prayer. One of my favorites is – if you want a better Pastor pray for the one you’ve got.

There is a song we sing called what a friend we have in Jesus. Within that song are the the words – what peace we often forfeit all because we do  ot take it to the lord in prayer.

Avoid the trouble and find the peace by praying.

1 Corinthians 14:27

KJV
If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

NIV
No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say.

The gift of speaking in tongues in a Church meeting should happen two or at the most three times.

All things are to be done decently and in order (Verse 40).

The NIV explains it very well when it says:

1. They must speak one at a time

This ties in perfectly with ‘in order’ and also with (Verse 23) where it warns that we are not to all speak in tongues at once because visitors to our meeting will think we are mad.

Everything is to be done decently and in order. At a set time during the meeting the voice gifts are to be operated in an orderly fashion, one at a time and by course. As excited and as enthusiastic as we might be God has also given us self-control. There is not to be spontaneous outbreaks of people speaking in tongues in a disorderly fashion.

2. And someone must interpret

In between (that by course) each gift of tongues there must be an interpretation by someone.

Should the person who spoke in tongues be allowed to interpret their own gift or should it be left for someone else?

The scripture doesn’t concern itself with this issue. The scriptures just emphasis that someone MUST interpret for the tongues to be beneficial to the Church.

It is interpretation NOT translation

Many are under the false assumption that the person giving the interpretation is giving an exact translation of what was said in tongues.

This is incorrect…

To interpret is to give the meaning.

For example:

In the Old Testament we can read of various examples of people interpreting dreams. The interpretation was the meaning of the dream which was totally different to the dream itself.

For a classic example let’s look at Judges 7:13-15

And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.

And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

The dream and the interpretation are totally different.

The interpretation is the meaning of the dream not the literal translation and so it is with the gift of tongues and interpretation.

The length of an interpretation has nothing to do
with the length of a tongue

There has been concern by some people over the years that a short gift of tongues shouldn’t be followed by a long gift of interpretation or vice-versa. They are worried about trying to explain how the translation is longer/shorter then the original message.

However as stated above an interpretation is NOT a translation and the length of either gift has no bearing on the other.

When you interpret any other subject matter in life you are explaining the meaning. And when you explain the meaning (no matter how short or long the original subject matter was) sometimes it can take quite a few words to get the meaning across while other times you only have to utter a few words.

When you fully understand that an interpretation is different to a translation the above concern becomes a non-issue.

How would you like to overcome insomnia?

It seems insomnia is a modern day epidemic and if you are suffering from a lack of sleep it affects everything else in your life resulting in a lack of energy, mood swings and utter desperation just to get a good nights sleep.

Insomia Cure

There are hypnosis cd’s, subliminal cd’s and even an mp3 download called Sleep like a baby… Hmm… My kids have grown up now but I seem to recall as babies they woke every 3 hrs for a feed? But seriously sleep deprivation is a serious issue and if you are suffering from it you need to get help.

One source that provides a free answer for a peaceful and restful sleep is the Bible.

In Proverbs Chapter 3 it talks about how precious obtaining the wisdom and understanding of the Lord and in verse 24 it says: When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Ecclesiastes 5:12 says…
The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

The abundance of the rich causes sleepless nights and really in comparison to Old Testament times if you are reading this then you are the rich. You have a computer, internet connection, the ability to read, which means there are 92% of the earths population worse off then you. And it is our rich lifestyle which contributes to out lack of sleep (there are of course complex medical reasons for some), but for the vast majority of us it is our affluent lifestyle of late night tv, computer surfing, coffee and snacks that all play apart in our sleepness nights. Of course throw in the mix worry, busy lifestyle, children waking at night and other things you can quickly see how easy it is to be robbed of sleep.

For a good nights sleep nothing beats a good conscience before God. Psalms 4:8 – I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

When you feel safe and at peace then you sleep comes easy. You can find this rest in the Lord.

We all like to know a big secret don’t we?

Today I am going to let you in on a secret that was revealed 2000 years ago. In reality it is a secret that has been around since the world began.

This secret is hidden in the Bible however the most amazing thing about this secret (apart from the actual secret itself) is that it is hidden in plain view.

It is there in plain site for all to see yet the great majority of this planets population don’t have a clue about this secret!

Romans 16:25 touches on this great mystery when it says…  according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began

Romans 6:26 – But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

NOW it is manifest (revealed, on show, can be seen). HOW do you SEE this secret – in the SCRIPTURES.

What is it?

Ephesians 1:9-11

Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.

This is the great secret and the great purpose in life. In fact it says we have a DESTINY – we have a pre-destiny to share in this great work. We are actually adopted in the family business of gathering all things in Christ.

Christians are in the business of saving souls.

What a calling, what a destiny, what a wonderful life to be involved in. Where is room for negativity? Sure we go through some difficult times in life and not everything will be without challenges – but what great destiny doesn’t?

We have a great positive plan and purpose in life and we get to not only know the secret but share in it!
